Just as the New Year comes with resolutions, so too will it come with new trends and new beauty trends. In recent years we’ve seen an oversaturation of trends and the never ending trend cycle from microtrends to macrotrends, aided by fast fashion and influencer culture.
While there is pushback against trends through individual style among beauty and fashion communities, the conversation of escaping trend cycles seems to only really stay a conversation.
Trends are here to stay and for good reason; trends are not bad. They show the evolution of art, culture, and society within beauty and fashion, however, microtrends…
Microtrends feed the beast of capitalism and overconsumption, making the art of beauty and fashion obsolete in an endeavor to buy what keeps you relevant.
So perhaps that should be our resolution this New Year, embracing individual style in 2025 to escape the endless cycle of microtrends. Which brings up the next dilemma: balancing individual style while fitting in, as it is only human nature.
As a fashion and beauty editor I’m ready to see personal style come out on top. The fashion and beauty communities should embrace their individualities, using clothes, products, and styles that suit them. Beauty trends in 2025 should be a way to uncover those styles, but they don’t have to be strictly adhered to. This isn’t 2005 where everything is so last season and you’re bullied for it — so we’re making some progress.
I’ve seen across social media channels, multiple creators talking about how they’re done with the clean girl aesthetic and want maximalist styles from pre-pandemic to come back. But girlies, just because it’s a trend doesn’t mean you must do it. If the makeup looks good, it doesn’t matter what products, techniques, or colors you use, it looks good.
Personally for me, I don’t stick to a strict makeup style with “No Makeup, Makeup” or full glam. I choose what suits my skin tone and facial features and experiment with different styles and colors in that way, and depending on the day and my mood, I will opt for full glam or natural looking makeup.
Trends can be a way for us to uncover the styles we love and those we don’t, discovering what suits our faces and what makes us feel the best.
So whether you’re a makeup maximalist or a minimalist skincare devotee, there’s something for everyone in this year’s upcoming lineup of trends that can uncover what you’ve been looking for in your beauty routine.
Blue / Berry Tones
Blue makeup is making a statement for beauty trends in 2025, from cobalt eyebrows to shimmering eyeshadows reminiscent of the 80s with a modern twist from doll-like looks at Harris Reed’s SS25 show to Sinead Gorey’s prom beauty.
Berry toned lips, as seen on Sabrina Carpenter and Jasmine Tookes, have set the tone for the end of 2024. Deep wine tones are common for fall and winter seasons, but at the advent of 2025, berry lips are coming out in different shades and colors to add a brightness in the upcoming spring 2025 season.

Throughout 2024 “No Makeup, Makeup” as a beauty trend has had a long and lasting presence within the makeup community, and it’s here to stay. Radiant, dewy skin remains a top priority.

Hopefully the maximalist makeup fans won’t be too mad, but again it’s a trend not a law, if you feel good and look good, trends don’t matter.
