How To Fight Hair Loss And Win

In recent months we noticed that the hair loss problem is touching not just men or new mums, who suffer hormonal hair shedding, but the wider society. Intelligence platform Spate reported that searches for scalp serums have increased by almost 60% since 2020 and this growth rate can be attributed to many things; lockdown habits (poor hair hygiene), diet changes, stress and of course illness (according to medical journal ‘The Lancet’, 22% of Long Covid sufferers have reported hair loss as one of their symptoms).

With solutions for this phenomenon being increasingly searched for, we decided to research this topic in more depth and see if there are any solutions that can help.

Hairstory’s New Wash

Whilst New Wash isn’t marketed as a hair loss solution, this shampoo-superior works in a way that promotes happy scalps and healthy hair. New Wash is based on the philosophy that shampoo is the shampoo is the worst thing we can use on our hair. Why? Because it strips the hair of natural oils, leading not only to repair measures (aka conditioner) but also to an overproduction of oil that creates a vicious cycle of washing.

The solution to this problem is to wash the hair with a shampoo-free formula that lifts away dirt and impurities but which leaves our natural oils intact. Enter New Wash – made up of a proprietary blend of essential oils and natural-derived saturated cleansers, New Wash respect the body’s natural moisture barrier that detergent destroys to leave hair feeling smoother, silkier and shinier, with longer lasting colour and happy scalps. It comes in three variants for different hair types and as well as being detergent-free, it’s paraben-free, phthalate-free and sulphate-free. It’s also 100% biodegradable which fits with the brands many eco-values.

Another great thing about it is that here is no need to use conditioner with New Wash, because the natural oils aren’t stripped away and in addition, the formula contains nourishing ingredients which further soften the hair. It does not foam and it can be used as often as you like with no risk of ‘over-washing’ like there is with shampoo. Brilliant for all hair types, it’s particularly great for preserving colour.

Solution…

We asked Head of Product Development at Hairstory, Jackie Bauer, what we can do to prevent that problem.

“Hair loss prevention has a lot to do with education. We need to be aware of what can cause hair loss in the first place. First, what are you using on your hair and your scalp? Many products tout their ability to help with hair loss, however if their ingredient list includes a series of detergents and/or silicones, steer clear. Silicone as an ingredient is one of the mostly widely used and effective ingredients on the market, however we don’t want to use silicones in our cleansing or conditioning products; they can cause unnecessary repetitive build up which after a while can take a toll on the hair shaft. Detergents are another culprit; they are harsh and they are irritating and for those people who already suffer from a sensitive scalp you are causing an unnecessary disturbance to the scalps ecosystem which can affect blood flow and circulation, both very important for the growth of hair follicles.”

“Second: Diet. Diet is key; what we put into our bodies nourishes everything including our scalp. Amino acids, Vitamin A, lavender and peppermint are just a few ingredients that are great for hair loss prevention while also keeping the scalp healthy. New Wash contains all of these ingredients (and more) so you could say that New Wash is feeding your hair…”

“Lastly, circulation; regular massaging helps kick start the scalps circulation which increases blood flow and helps with hair growth.”
