Want Long Shiny Hair?

These are our tips to achieving long, shiny and healthy hair

Long hair

STEP 1

Use a hair shampoo and conditioner that is chemical-free

Trying to find shampoos and conditioners that are chemical-free may prove challenging, so we recommend finding shampoos that are sulfate-free. Itching and redness are possible side effects of sulfates. The three to avoid are sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, and ammonium laureth sulfate.

By using a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, you will maintain your scalp’s natural oil and leave your hair with more moisture and hydration.

If you need additional care, make sure your shower head is filtered, as the water contains chlorine will dry out your hair. By using a filtered showerhead, the hardness of the water can be reduced by 50%, preventing hair loss and making hair softer. You should also rinse your hair with cold water, as this causes less damage and helps seal the cuticles after washing your hair, which locks in moisture, preventing frizz.

STEP 2

Pay attention to your scalp

Our scalps are just as important as our skin, but many of us forget to take care of them as we do our skin. You can prevent dandruff flakes and irritation by learning how to care for your scalp. In order to promote hair growth and maintain healthy hair, the scalp needs to be healthy.

A healthy scalp and thorough washing of product buildup provide benefits including preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth. It is beneficial to add a scalp scrub to your routine to remove dead skin cells, oil and dandruff.

STEP 3

Regularly trim your hair

When you cut split ends, your hair will grow healthier, thicker, and shiner. You do not have to cut your hair short, but you should remove the ends that might break your hair and make it hard for it to grow.

Ideally, the average time frame between cuts is every 3 to 4 months.

STEP 4

Consider taking hair-growth supplements

Our hair thrives on protein, iron, zinc and B12. These nutrients help support the hair structure, as well as promote the growth and hydration of the hair.

Nutritional supplements are able to boost the overall health of your hair if you do not get enough nutrients.

The supplements that help with hair health include Biotin, Vitamin D3, Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Vitamin C, B-complex, Vitamin A and Hair Skin and Nails.

We recommend: Hair Skin & Nails Vitamin C B complex & B12 D3 Zinc Calcium Biotin

STEP 5

Stop using heated tools to style hair

For healthy hair, you need to stay away from heat styling tools like blowdryers, straighteners, curling irons, etc.

If you must use them, be sure to use a heat protection spray to minimize the damage the heat causes to your hair.

We recommend: L’Oreal Kérastase Redken VO5

STEP 6

DO NOT BLEACH YOUR HAIR!!

Stay away from bleach if you want healthy long hair. By bleaching your hair, you can break down hair pigments, molecules, and fats, causing damage to your hair and preventing healthy growth.

STEP 7

Be gentle with your hair

When it comes to styling and brushing, being gentle to yourself is very important, as being harsh can result in hair breaking. Hair is more susceptible to damage when wet, so we should detangle our hair when dry rather than in the shower. If you must brush your hair in the shower, then you should use a wet brush and brush in sections. It is also a good idea to use Microfiber towels, which are lightweight, super absorbent, and one size fits all.

STEP 8

Opt for silk

Hair follicles can become damaged if you tie your hair too tightly. An overly tight ponytail may cut the hair and cause fraying and breakage. Choosing silk hair ties is a more gentle way to tie your hair and make it less likely to damage it.

It is also possible to break your hair from the pillowcase that you sleep on because of friction caused by rubbing your hair against it. A better option would be to switch to a silk pillowcase.

STEP 9

Use protective hairstyles

A protective hairstyle is a great way to style your hair without using heat. The fishtail braid, the side braid, and pigtails are all protective styles that you can choose from. When your hair is protected it grows faster since it is less susceptible to damage.

STEP 10

Use a deep conditioner

The use of a deep conditioner once a week is great for shiny, moisturised hair.

Deep conditioning reduces breakage and split ends, and it also improves your hair’s overall health.

STEP 11

Use hair oil

Oils are the ultimate go-to for beautiful, healthy hair. They strengthen your hair and increase its elasticity, and some oils can prevent damage caused by heat.

You can apply a light hair oil every day when styling your hair or you can use a thicker oil once a week as a deep treatment for a few hours and then rinse it out. In addition to leaving your hair feeling moisturized and replenished, oils can also encourage hair growth.

We recommend: Pukka Vita Moroccan Oil L’Oréal

STEP 12

Use a hair tonic

Tonics are extremely hydrating, they lubricate dry scalps, reduce split ends, help reduce hair breakage and are great for using before styling for shiny hairstyles. They also help control dandruff and hold the hair in place.

We recommend: Weleda Dr Hauschka Rausch Superdrug
