Condé Nast strengthens its Middle East presence, transitioning Vogue Arabia, GQ Middle East, and other titles to direct operations. Learn more about their digital-first strategy and focus on regional talent.
Condé Nast Expands Footprint in the Middle East
Condé Nast is doubling down on the Middle East. The media giant has announced a strategic shift, bringing four of its renowned titles – Vogue Arabia, GQ Middle East, Condé Nast Traveler, and Architectural Digest – under direct ownership and operation. This move signals Condé Nast’s commitment to the region’s burgeoning luxury market and its young, digitally savvy population.
Thomas Khoury, Managing Director of Condé Nast Middle East, emphasized the company’s excitement about directly leading these influential brands. Anna Wintour, Condé Nast’s Chief Content Officer and Global Editorial Director, expressed her enthusiasm for supporting their growth with the full power of Condé Nast’s global network.
A New Era for Vogue Arabia, GQ Middle East, and Condé Nast Traveler
This transition from licensing agreements to direct management allows Condé Nast greater control over brand positioning, editorial direction, and the overall consumer experience. The company is embracing a mobile-first, social-first, and digital-first strategy, recognizing the importance of reaching Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen Alpha in the region. While maintaining a selective print presence, the focus is clearly on digital platforms.
Events are also a key component of Condé Nast’s Middle East strategy. The company plans to leverage global events like the Vanity Fair Oscar party and Vogue World, while also creating localized events that resonate with regional celebrations like Ramadan and Diwali.
Manuel Arnaut will continue to lead editorial content for Vogue Arabia, and Amine Jreissati will head editorial content for GQ Middle East. Both will publish their first print issues under direct management in March.
Addressing the challenge of finding native Arabic-speaking editorial talent, Khoury acknowledged the importance of contextual relevance and highlighted Condé Nast’s plans to collaborate with academic institutions to develop journalism standards within the region.
