
Early life and Humble Beginnings
Giorgio Armani is synonymous with fashion. If you talk to anybody in the fashion world they know his name and know that he was an innovator,genius and style icon. Armani made his grand entrance in Piacenza,Italy on July 11,1934. He showed promise as a creator at a young age, and honed his skills in Milan, Italy, while working at a department store called La Rinescante. While working at the store he honed his skills for fashion by designing the store’s window displays. Wanting to expand on his talent he moved on to become a men’s suit designer at Nino Curretti . Building on his talent, he ventured into business with his partner Sergio Galettio establishing his first design studio. Knowing his niche for men’s clothing, he debuted a men’s collection and eventually started his own company. Building on the momentum of his company’s success,
Breaking through with American Gigolo
Armani broke through in the USA by designing menswear for the movie American Gigolo in 1980. Notable fashion choices for the film shifted the way people looked at men’s wear by removing jacket padding and using softer fabrics like linen, creating lighter silhouettes and more fluid movement for the wearer. With the launch of American Gigolo, Armani makes Richard Gere a household name and style icon by wearing Armani’s designs.


Celebrities Wear His Designs
Armani’s success allowed him to rub shoulders with notable celebs and therefore notable figures would wear his clothing designs on red carpets and events .



Armani on the Runway
Not only making a splash on the red carpet, he has made statements on the runway as well with his designs ranging from power suits, military jackets and couture gown.
For Armani’s Emporio Armani show for Fall/Winter 2022 he showed his military collection by designing military boots, jackets and belts that wrapped around the waist .


For his Armani Prive Summer 2025 collection in Paris, he featured a lot of couture gowns that had crystal embellished designs.


Armani’s Final Bow
Giorgio Armani sadly passed away on September 4 2025 in Milan, Italy. To commemorate his time in the fashion industry Milan fashion week will debut his latest works and honor him with a 50th anniversary collection runway show to pay their respects to the talented designer.
Armani in the Future
Armani was a fascinating figure in fashion history and his designs will live on for future generations. His fashion house and legacy will live on through his licensing deals with L’Oreal and EssilorLuxottica. Knowing about Armani is a treat for anybody. I believe his designs will teach future fashion designers about men’s wear and minimalist fashion.
