When’s The Best Time To Introduce A Skincare Routine?

When’s the best time to introduce a skincare routine? It’s no secret that the desire for beautiful, supple and glowing skin is on the majority of our minds. When it comes to doing our beauty routines in the morning, we all over analyse our faces with our fingers crossed. Hoping that a new imperfection doesn’t appear!

Personally, skincare rituals are on my mind all the time. I love the feeling of immersing my skin in a nourishing mask and appreciating the positive results.. New skincare launches will always excite me, new knowledge often learnt by SkincarebyHyram, and the ‘best product’ lists are my favourite pass time. But when is the best time to start introducing a skincare routine?

Start Young!

When I started a full skincare routine in my early teens I was always told that I was too young. The truth is, it’s never really too early to start a skincare routine. Promoting healthy skin that will fair you well into your adult and senior years is a positive, right? Just because your skin now is supple, healthy and ‘young’, it doesn’t mean that it will stay this way through lack of TLC. You wouldn’t care for your hair once it is already evidently damaged, would you? We promote hair health with weekly hair masks and good conditioners, so treat your skin the same!

The Best Time To Start

The best time to start a good skincare routine is in your teens. I started at 17, if you can start earlier, great! Just be mindful of the ingredients you are using on your skin, high percentage retinoids are not necessary at this age, but starting with an SPF early will always be a great choice to combat premature ageing. In your mid 20’s the signs of ageing will slowly start to show from fine frown lines, to laughing lines as your skin starts to lose elasticity. However, this can be combatted if you have a reliable routine introduced early on, working in your favour long into your 30’s and 40’s. This may seem scary if you don’t already have a routine, but simply introducing a few steps can help you on your way to figuring out a self-care routine that works for you;

Wash Your Face Twice A Day

It’s incredibly important that you clean your face twice a day, morning and night with a good cleanser. If you’re applying any makeup, moisturisers or primers to name a few in the day and not cleansing your skin thoroughly before you sleep the chance for clogged pores, fine lines, dull skin and acne will be higher.

Gentle cleansers are perfect for starting early, they’ll sufficiently break down any oils, makeup and moisturisers from the day and be gentle enough to not cause irritation. I like the Oat Cleansing Balm from The Inkey List, it’s light ingredients make it a great option for all skin types including sensitive. Another great option are the ranges from The Ordinary.

Moisturise Daily

Moisturising is just as important as cleansing. As soon as you cleanse your skin loses moisture which can often feel ‘tight’. If you don’t put it back into your skin you can suffer from dryness, and fine lines can form. You won’t get that bouncy plump appearance that we all desire.. A moisturiser with an SPF included for the mornings and a hydrating night time product is a perfect combination to keep your skin feeling hydrated and full. Origins offer a beautiful range of natural hydrating products in addition to Simple.

Don’t Forget The Eyes

Starting with a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and SPF is already a great start, however, the eyes mustn’t be forgotten! Light hydrating eye creams will help decrease fine lines that can otherwise disturb your perfect makeup look. An eye serum later on is a perfect product to introduce from 20+ that will fight against crows feet.

Sun Protection

While we all enjoy the sun and the tans that come with it. If you’re not using sun protection you risk exposing your skin to damaging UV rays. This will lead to premature ageing, sun spots, dehydration, and potentially serious conditions such as skin cancers. Even if you look out your window and notice that the sky is looking a little cloudy, do not skip this step! The suns UV can still penetrate through the top layers of your skin and still cause damage. You can find many different brands offering good SPF choices such as Nivea and La’Roche Posay.

The round up is, start now! The sooner you start your new and improved skincare routine, the sooner your skin will love you for it! What age did you start? Let us know @stylecartel on all social platforms.
