Finding a good SPF should be easy. It’s the most important step in any skincare routine, more important than serums, toners, and the overpriced moisturiser you swear by. However, if you’re a dark skin girlie, you already know the struggle – ghostly white casts, sticky textures, and formulas that do way too much, yet not enough.
Even in 2025, I can name more than a few sunscreens that still don’t play nice with melanin. Mineral ones are usually the worst offenders — they sit on top of the skin and bounce light like you’re stuck in a flashback. As dermatologist Dr. Brittany Oliver puts it, they “absorb and reflect UV radiation.” Science? Yes. Cute? Absolutely not.
I have the oiliest skin, so thick, creamy sunscreens? Not for me. I need something lightweight that won’t turn me into a bright halo by midday. That said, there are options out there—for dry skin, sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, or all of the above. I have searched far and wide and have managed to narrow it down the ones that actually work on for. No grey cast, weird film and no excuses.
