From Paco Rabanne’s original concept of “12 Unwearable Dresses” in 1966 to a new and innovative project with Selfridges, the Maison continues to define its vision through radical craft. Following a preview event held on February 17, the high-end UK retailer will debut Paco Rabanne NFTs in the coming weeks. Selected from the Maison’s archive, 12 digital dresses rendered with remarkably realistic detail could be purchased online.

THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE AT DECENTRALAND: A PREVIEW OF THE 12 ‘UNWEARABLES’, THE PACO RABANNE ARCHIVE DRESSES AS NFTs SOLD AT SELFRIDGES
These dresses represent some of Paco Rabanne’s most dazzling creations and span some 30 years. Among the masterpieces: a sleeveless apron dress of wooden beads in a cascade of pastel hues (SS70); an haute couture gown assembled from geometric reflective laser discs (SS88); and a cosmic tutu in silver metal and transparent plastic (FW96). Some materials, such as fuchsia suction cups and repurposed circuit boards will appear even better suited for the virtual world than for real life.

The 12 NFTs can be seen in preview at the Selfridges flagship metaverse store opening in Decentraland to kick off metaverse fashion week. Indeed, Decentraland will host runway shows but also fashion experiences like the one Paco Rabanne and Victor Vasarely are featuring, with an immersive journey in a space inspired by Selfridges’ iconic Birmingham store.
