Feng Chen Wang Spring Summer 2024 Collection

Feng Chen Wang’s SS24 collection is a celebration of her childhood memories of her grandmother, with whom she would explore the mountains and rivers in her hometown Fujian, China. These precious memories have stayed with Wang and inspired her to recreate them using an ancient botanical contact printing method. Working with local Chinese artisans, Wang selected her grandmother’s favorite plants and pounded them onto traditional Chinese silk, creating unique patterns that capture the colors, form, and veins of each botanical.

The collection undergoes a stunning transformation with each piece and look showcased on the runway. Wang’s palette for this season is fade of pink, blue, purple, and black, creating dream-like colors that are spread out, dyed, and captured into an imprint on the fabric.ilk is the principal fabric used in the collection, symbolizing natural purity, and appears on shirts, shorts, and transparent organza jackets.

Wool suits featuring the botanical contact printing method lend an elevated finishing touch to the collection. The patterns require several rounds of dyeing to achieve the desired color result, showcasing a process of pure handwork between Wang and local artisans.

The collection explores the boundaries between reality and longing, with a dragon and phoenix pattern appearing through jacquard and water-washing processes in different colors, including denim-blue, grey, and shades of khaki. Natural materials have been used in the accessories, such as bamboo hair clasps and wooden necklaces, combined with the newly designed Feng Chen Wang eyewear collection for this season. These pieces are seriously dynamic and on-trend for any fashionista. That reconstructed blazers are fierce! The reconstruction/deconstruction of the blazers are absolutely mind-blowing.

The collection was showcased at the Lycée Montaigne, with musical collective Nara Bara performing live as models descended on the runway. The collection embodies a comprehensive narrative of emotional moments showcasing Wang’s unique creative vision and her ability to blend tradition with contemporary fashion. The showcase was incredible. Feng Chen Wang is definitely a designer to watch.
