Perhaps like most of us in the Gen-Z age group, I started watching Sex and the City at too young of an age. I was in my early teens with a love for fashion, and I wanted to know what it was all about. I then discovered, like its namesake, the series wasn’t just known for its fashion. Who would have thought that there’d be sex in Sex and the City?
When I went home last summer to visit with my family, my mother was rewatching the series. One day I joined her on the couch to watch it, and of course, I couldn’t escape the sex scenes⎯as there’s at least one in almost every episode⎯and the customary awkward silence during said sex scenes.
You know, where you want to fast forward so you don’t have to endure watching sex scenes with your family, but also have the dilemma of: if you fast forward that means you acknowledge a sex scene in front of your parents. And so during one such instance in an attempt to ease the awkwardness, I took the route of critiquing the show to distract from the stiff silence.
I chose a trivial but honest thing I didn’t like about the series: the lack of hot men. I remarked that all the men and love interests are so ugly. My mother then replied, “It was the nineties.” As if that made all the sense in the world.
And while I question Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda’s taste in men, I don’t question their fashion sense. As it did in the nineties, these women’s differing senses of style remain iconic and noteworthy. So, why not embrace their styles for upcoming holiday parties?
This is how I would style each character from Sex and the City for a Christmas party, tailored to their unique style. Take inspiration and choose who you want to dress like for the holiday season!
Carrie Bradshaw: Sex and The City’s Very Own Diva
Carrie’s outfits across the series changed a lot, but at the essence of her individual style, she’s always unpredictably fun yet sexy with her outfits. Think the iconic tutu and tank-top combo or her cropped button-down blouse with a belt on her bare mid-drift.
Carrie would wear something that screams “DIVA!,” and this is the outfit I see her wearing for the holidays. And of course, I had to include a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s, because it’s not Sex and the City with Carrie Bradshaw without Manolo.

Samantha Jones: The Sex Icon of Sex and the City
Samantha is the sexually liberated icon we all know and love. She is a respected and successful businesswoman who knows what she wants and takes it. I wanted her outfit to embody the powerful and sensual seductress she is. The presence of satin and gold in this outfit is my way of showing how magnetic and self-assured Samantha is.

Charlotte York: Sex and the City’s Bride to Be
Charlotte is an intelligent working woman, but she also wants the fairytale. She⎯like me ⎯is a hopeless romantic, and her sense of style reflects that.
Whether she wants to impress a date, attend a gala, take that next step with the man she’s dating, or wear her everyday clothes, her style remains at the essence of pretty and feminine in a classic elegant sort of way. This is how I would style Charlotte as she hosts her holiday party.

Miranda Hobbes: The Boss Bitch of Sex and the City
Miranda is a goal-oriented and assertive woman who is capable of a lot of things. Her style changed the most throughout Sex and the City. I wanted to choose an outfit that would fit the character, from her lesbian-lawyer dressing days to the days of juggling single motherhood with a career.
I styled Miranda with this outfit to express her assertive and direct nature while showcasing the dichotomy of her masculine and feminine style.
