Louis Vuitton Sets Sail in Shanghai with “The Louis” – A Floating World of Fashion, Culture, and Taste

Louis Vuitton makes waves in Shanghai with “The Louis,” an extraordinary new space that blurs the lines between concept store, café, and exhibition.

Anchored in the heart of the city’s business district on Wujiang Road, this striking boat-shaped structure rises like a sculptural vessel – a tribute to both Shanghai’s maritime legacy as well as the House’s deep-rooted spirit of travel.

From the metallic Monogram “hull” to decks shaped like vintage trunks, “The Louis” feels like stepping aboard a dream – a surreal nod to 19th-century ocean liners and Vuitton’s heritage of crafting trunks for far-flung voyages. However, this is no ordinary retail space; rather, it is an immersive experience where fashion, history, as well as culinary artistry converge.

A Cultural Cruise Through Craft and Creativity

Inside, the journey begins with the Louis Vuitton Visionary Journeys exhibition, which charts the House’s evolution. Conceived by architect Shohei Shigematsu of OMA, the scenography guides guests through a mesmerizing flow of spaces – from the monumental “Trunkscape” installation to themed rooms dedicated to perfume, fashion, books, sport, and more.

The narrative spans from the House’s founding in Asnières to its connection with the sea – weaving in iconic pieces like the Keepall and Neverfull, bespoke perfume trunks, and stories of legendary clients like Ernest Hemingway. Live artisan demonstrations and archival displays invite visitors to witness the enduring artistry behind each piece.

A Taste of the World at Le Café Louis Vuitton

On the third floor, Le Café Louis Vuitton offers a refined pause from the voyage. With its soft-lit interiors and maritime-inspired design, it blends the elegance of a luxury liner with the warmth of a modern brasserie.

Here, chefs Leonardo Zambrino and Zoe Zhou serve a menu that reflects Shanghai’s spirit – a fusion of East and West. Think Monogram ravioli crafted like Jiaozis, “Cesar Salad Eclipse” with Yuja dressing, or standout dishes like the “Louis Hao” seabream carpaccio and the decadent “Hall Treasure” duck confit. Furthermore, signature desserts, such as a Peach Charlotte infused with jasmine tea – finish the experience with poetic flair.

Fashion Meets Port City Soul

More than a flagship or café, “The Louis” is a modern-day port of call – a place where fashion’s future meets its storied past. As a result, it reflects Shanghai’s identity as a global gateway, not only reaffirming Louis Vuitton’s role as a luxury house, but also elevating it as a house of culture.

Additionally, in this immersive world of trunks, textures, and taste, Louis Vuitton invites every visitor to travel beyond shopping. Instead, they are drawn into a story of imagination, innovation, and legacy.
