EŚAÍ at Manchester Fashion Week
At Fashion Week
EŚAÍ was one of the designers featured at Manchester Fashion Week. The week focused on sustainability, responsible materials and challenging the traditional fashion industry systems.
Opening Day
EŚAÍ closed the opening day of Manchester Fashion Week with a collection described as featuring sculptural silhouettes challenging conventional femininity and experimental draping with excessive textiles.
Sculpturing Silhouettes
One of the strong characterisations is the use of sculpture-like shapes. Rather than allowing the materials to flow naturally over the body, they are often designed to manipulate and reshape.
The body becomes part of the design, rather than something the clothes cling to. This is especially important when considering the collection’s connection with femininity by questioning what femininity can look like.
The Style of Draping
Draping is another key factor in the EŚAÍ aesthetic. Used in the gown’s construction, the fabric is rarely seen on flat surfaces, creating fluidity against the more rigid sculptures.
This contrast makes the designs more visually interesting. There is tension between the garments.
The Visual Expression
The collection also uses textiles as a visual expression. The combination of unusual textiles makes the outfits look more like wearable art than ready-to-wear.
Distorted Femininity
Traditional women’s wear has often relied on recognisable visual codes like a cinched waist. This collection takes those connections and distorts them.
The exaggerated proportions created something undeniably feminine but not conventionally feminine. EŚAÍ makes the body powerful and almost resembling a godlike state within their creations.
Manchester Fashion Week focused on thinking about what fashion can become, and that’s why EŚAÍ worked so well displaying their collection there this year.
