Louis Vuitton is the sponsor of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style

In a powerful convergence of fashion, heritage, and artistic vision, Louis Vuitton is the proud sponsor of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, the highly anticipated Spring 2025 exhibition from The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

More than just a showcase of sartorial excellence, the exhibition honors the rich legacy of Black dandyism—a cultural force long woven into the threads of fashion history, and one that finds renewed resonance under the creative direction of Pharrell Williams.

From Aesthetics to Deeper Values

Since his appointment as Men’s Creative Director in 2023, Williams has used his platform at Louis Vuitton to highlight the enduring influence of Black culture on global fashion. His collections speak not only to aesthetics but also to deeper values: humanity, community, and opportunity. As co-chair of this year’s Costume Institute Benefit, Williams brings his signature blend of style and substance to the center stage, echoing the themes explored in Superfine.

Williams’s debut Men’s collection for Spring-Summer 2024 introduced a contemporary vision of the Black dandy—reimagined through the lens of exquisite tailoring, heritage references, and elevated craftsmanship. This sensibility is grounded in the belief that fashion can be a tool for self-expression and personal elevation. At the heart of his approach is a desire to spotlight excellence, encouraging individuals to shine brightly and, in doing so, illuminate others.

Central to this philosophy is the LVERS ideology—first introduced in his debut show—a concept that unites a global community through shared values of creativity, discernment, and respect for heritage. This spirit embodies the bespoke Louis Vuitton looks created for the 2025 Met Gala: garments and accessories crafted by master artisans, blending precision with imagination. For this year’s Met Gala, Louis Vuitton dresses multiple celebrities, including Zendaya, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, and Pusha-T, each bringing distinct flair to the red carpet.

Louis Vuitton’s Collection for The Met Gala

The collection seamlessly melds classical tailoring with modern silhouettes. Sculpted and cropped jackets pair with flared trousers; utilitarian workwear is reborn through the refined lens of couture craftsmanship. Each look pays homage to a pantheon of dandy influences—from the eighteenth century and the Harlem Renaissance to the golden eras of jazz, disco, and hip-hop—infusing garments with a noble, almost regal quality.

Materials are rich and rare: fine wool, pearl-encrusted lace, supple leathers, and hand-applied embellishments elevate each piece. Details are meticulously considered, from gem-studded buttons to embroidery that blurs the line between fashion and art.

Standout accessories include the Speedy P9 bag, reimagined in exotic leathers and fur, alongside footwear like the LV ButterSoft Foot Sneaker, LV Bubble loafer, and the LV Jazz derbies—an exclusive preview from the Spring-Summer 2026 collection. Pharrell’s own Met Gala look epitomized his vision: a pearl-pinstriped evening jacket, flared black trousers, and a deep burgundy crocodile Speedy P9 bag, anchored by a Millionaire chain in aged gold.

Louis Vuitton’s tribute to Virgil Abloh

This chapter of Louis Vuitton’s ongoing dialogue with Black culture also pays tribute to the groundbreaking legacy of Virgil Abloh. From 2018 to 2021, Abloh used his role as Men’s Artistic Director to reframe the narrative around Black identity in luxury fashion. His work brought global attention to the Afro-diasporic canon, creating space for deeper cultural reflection within the luxury sphere.

Together, Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton carry that torch forward—elevating Black style not as a trend, but as a foundational, transformative force in the world of fashion. Superfine is more than an exhibition. It’s a celebration, a remembrance, and a radiant vision of what’s next.
