Summer Escape to Ibiza: A Solo Adventure

Fall was calling, with its crisp air and early sunsets. It felt like another summer was slipping through my fingers. For four long years, a mix of health challenges and a gnawing insecurity about my body had kept me from a proper summer holiday. I watched enviously as friends posted their sun-kissed escapades, feeling like a spectator in my own life. But this year, something had to give. Ibiza on a budget for Gen X women like me.

Finding My Vibe on a Dime

With a newfound sense of defiance and a pocketful of Revolut air miles, I did something I never thought I would: I booked a one-way flight to Ibiza. The mission? To take back my summer, embrace my body as it is, and do it all on a budget. I packed four bathing suits, a mix of breezy cover-ups, and a spirit hungry for adventure.

Confessions of a Late Summer Escape to Ibiza

Ibiza is known for its high-octane parties and astronomical prices, but I was determined to prove that you could find its soul without breaking the bank. My strategy was to mix and match my stays, staying in three different budget-friendly hostels to experience a different slice of life.

The Hostal with the Heart: Hostal Mari

My first stop was Hostal Mari, and it was a revelation. Tucked away in San Antonio, this place was a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. I was blown away. The room was totally brand new, with an incredible bathroom and a comfy bed. My favourite part? The private terrace.

It felt like my own little sanctuary. Hostal Mari seemed to be a preferred spot for women, whether solo like me or on a girls’ trip, who wanted a low-key, beautiful base. The family that has run it for three generations has truly thought of everything, from the 24-hour reception to the on-site S Marí Cocina Bar, which serves up delicious, homemade Mediterranean food. The location is a dream, just a short walk from the bus station and a five-minute stroll to the legendary Café del Mar for those iconic sunsets.

The Red Hotel: A Quick Stop & A Fresh Start

Next, I moved to The Red Hotel. While its location on the main beach strip of San Antonio was prime, it wasn’t my favourite. The building felt a bit tired, and the rooms were dated, but it was alive with the energy of the 20-somethings who flock there. The huge restaurant was a great place to grab an affordable meal, and I discovered a fantastic fresh juice bar right across the street. The vibe was definitely for those looking to be in the centre of the action, and while it wasn’t for me, I appreciated its convenience.

The Coolest Construction Site: Hostal Anibal

My last stop was the Hostal Anibal, and despite some construction happening, it was the coolest place I stayed. I loved the blue lights in the room, the modern, clean aesthetic, and the fact that every room had a balcony. My room wasn’t even finished—the woman was still sewing the curtains!—but I didn’t mind one bit. The staff was so genuinely nice, and having a pool was a game-changer. One afternoon, I even left O Beach early just to lounge poolside at my “Hotel on a Budget.” Being a five-minute walk from O Beach and the bus to the airport made it an ideal and affordable home base for my final days.

The Unexpected Vibe of Soho Farmhouse Ibiza

You can’t talk about Ibiza without talking about the iconic party scene, but what I truly loved was the quieter, more soulful side of the island. After all, a girl can’t rave 24/7! I spent a blissful day at the Soho Farmhouse Ibiza. It was everything. The vibe was immaculate—pure relaxation and understated luxury. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle, a place where you could truly unwind and just be.

Ibiza on a Budget: Your A-Z Guide

Doing Ibiza on a budget is all about smart choices. I opted for hostels over hotels, which significantly cut down my accommodation costs. I ate at local restaurants and took advantage of the “menú del día” (menu of the day) specials, which offer a full meal for a set price. Instead of expensive taxis, the bus system in San Antonio is incredibly efficient and cheap, connecting me to everything I needed. Most importantly, I packed a few bikinis and spent my days at the beach—a completely free activity. By planning my days around what was free and what was a good deal, I was able to experience the island’s magic without the extravagant price tag. I only took a Taxi to a restaurant on the beach, more later and to Soho Farmhouse.

Top Places to Go for Closing Parties This End of Summer 2025

The end of the Ibiza season is legendary. If you’re heading to the island for the final parties, here are some of the biggest names and dates to look out for. Remember to check official websites for final line-ups and to book tickets in advance, as they sell out fast and are much cheaper online.

  • Hï Ibiza & Ushuaïa: These sister clubs often host a grand finale weekend together. The official closing parties are scheduled for Saturday, October 11th, 2025.
  • Amnesia: Get ready for an epic, marathon party. The Amnesia closing party is set for Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th, 2025.
  • Pacha: The iconic cherries will close out the season with their official closing parties on October 11th and 12th, 2025.
  • O Beach Ibiza: Known for its day parties, O Beach will have its Grand Closing Party on Sunday, October 12th, 2025.

Female-First Safety Tips for Ibiza

Ibiza is a safe island, but like anywhere, it’s wise to be aware.

  1. Watch Your Drink: This is the most important rule. Never leave your drink unattended, and don’t accept drinks from strangers.
  2. Stick Together: If you’re with a group, have a meeting point in case you get separated. If you’re solo, let someone at home know your plans for the night.
  3. Licensed Taxis Only: Do not use unlicensed taxis. Use official taxi stands or a trusted ride-sharing app.
  4. Secure Your Valuables: Keep your phone and wallet in a secure, zippered bag. Consider a fanny pack or a cross-body bag worn in front of you. Pickpocketing can be an issue in crowded areas.

What to Pack: A Gen X Guide to a Four-Day Trip

For a quick, end-of-summer trip, packing smart is key. Focus on versatile, comfortable pieces.

  • The Essentials: Four bathing suits (a bikini is a must!), a couple of stylish cover-ups, and a light wrap for evenings.
  • Clothing: Two to three light dresses that can go from day to night. A pair of comfortable sandals for walking, and a pair of chic flats or wedges for the evenings. A light jacket or jumper for cooler nights is essential, especially in September.
  • Accessories: A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, a beach bag, and a small, secure bag for going out.
  • Self-Care: Sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a good moisturiser. Don’t forget any personal medications.
  • For the Mature Woman: Embrace comfort without sacrificing style. A one-piece can be just as chic as a bikini. Focus on quality fabrics and cuts that make you feel confident. This trip is about you feeling good in your own skin.

My trip to Ibiza was more than just a holiday. It was a journey of self-discovery. It was about proving to myself that I was still capable of adventure and that my body, exactly as it is, deserves to feel the sun on its skin. It’s not about perfection; it’s about life and living it fully.
