Sneaker Freak Friday Schiaparelli X Daniel Roseberry

Daniel Roseberry, the artistic director of Schiaparelli, has designed a pair of dunk sneakers, in line with the surrealist aesthetic of the Parisian house. The first for the house.  Daniel Roseberry quite literally dipped his toes into the sneaker world with Schiaparelli’s debut trainer silhouette.

Schiaparelli adds a new string to its bow thanks to Daniel Roseberry, the American at the head of the French house since 2019.  Unveiled on the sidelines of the spring-summer 2024 ready-to-wear fashion show, these Converse-esque haute couture sneakers have the particularity of featuring artificial toes on each foot, the kind of trompe l’oeil customary at Schiaparelli.

“It’s the fantasy of couture made for the street.

The 39-year-old Texan also played with the characteristic shapes of the Dadaist sculptor Brancusi, which he used, again during this show, on enormous gold cuff bracelets so that sneaker heads could have matching acessories.

Daniel Roseberry, artistic director of Schiaparelli for his very first pair of sneakers Popping in the streets. Daniel Roseberry is no exception to the rule and is therefore inspired by the disruptive spirit of Elsa Schiaparelli who, in the early 1930s, imagined her first trompe-l’oeil pattern on a sweater hand-knitted.

“It’s the fantasy of couture made for the street. This sneaker is particularly meaningful to me because it symbolizes who I am: an American in Paris. It embodies the meeting of two worlds: American comfort and the rigour of French chic,” he said in a press release.

We are Americans in Paris too, and grew up with sneaker culture which is a cool factor on the streets. This Sneaker Freak Friday we are feending for a pair.

Contrary to what one might think, the idea of a haute couture sneaker is not so foreign to the founding spirit of the fashion house. During the time of Elsa Schiaparelli, sportswear was indeed at the heart of the aesthetic of the Parisian house since it was thanks to the success of the trompe-l’oeil knitted sweater that the Italian artist decided to launch, above all the world, the first line “Schiaparelli – Pour le Sport” (which will also be the first official name of the fashion house).

For Elsa Schiaparelli, the word sportswear encompassed a much broader reality at the time than it does today and was less directly associated with sportswear.

Schiaparelli’s Gold Toe Trainers by Daniel Roseberry, which retail for 2,300 euros ($2,450), are now available at its boutique at 21 Place Vendôme in Paris, Bergdorf Goodman in New York, Harrods in London, and Neiman Marcus in Dallas and Los Angeles.

Hot or Not? We cannot wait to see what the retail value will be? If you can buy two, wear one and keep one for the archives.
