Nicolas Ghesquière’s first show in March 2014, for Louis Vuitton Ghesquière left a typewritten note for all of his guests. Back then he wrote about the “immense joy” of a fresh start. On the night of the WOMEN’S FALL-WINTER 2024, he wrote a similar letter placed on all 4,000 or more seats —a massive crowd that included many of the company’s employees. The evening and collection was a celebration of a return to a disco era mixed with ravewear ready for a Louis Vuitton club night. Are you ready to rock?
He said, “This joy is still here. Ten years later, this evening is a new dawn.” The synchronicity of the two messages was not unintentional. Ghesquière was looking back at key pieces from his Vuitton oeuvre. As strong as his design lingo is, the references were easy enough to spot, even if his reinterpretations were far from line-for-line.
WOMEN’S FALL WINTER 2024 SHOW
Having embarked on a ten-year adventure with Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière considers the journey in retrospect, with memory as the guide for imagination. In this exploration of introspection, memories resurface as a stratification of emotions, reflections, and references… A special collection that, while situated in the seasonality of Fall-Winter 2024-2025, also bears witness to a decade of fashion. In this creative journey, it’s all about charting the right course, following one’s own North Star, the curious traveller’s essential compass.
Pay close attention to the accessories. We noticed the fury mittens. We spot a trend. Mittens will be the new it accessory this Fall-Winter 2024-2025.
Louis Vuitton Nicolas Ghesquière 10th Anniversary

A stylistic North Star that indicates the right direction and lights the way. Here, it ensures the constancy of a vocabulary compiled over ten years as the designer draws on his intertextuality to explore different horizons. One detects a tinge of earlier affinities, felicitous imprints of beloved garments, and affection for a gesture, a cut or an embroidery. The imagination absorbs it all. What is familiar is renewed. Every tomorrow is a new day… The designer uses the metaphor to encourage us to keep following the stars and the light in our fashion journey and rave out along the way.
WOMEN’S FALL WINTER 2024 SHOW
The Fall-Winter 2024-2025 collection is being presented in the Cour Carrée at the Louvre, an iconic venue for Louis Vuitton shows and the place where Nicolas Ghesquière presented his first collection exactly ten years ago, on March 5th, 2014.
Once again, the set has been conceived by the artist Philippe Parreno in collaboration with film production designer James Chinlund, as well as a soundscape by sound designer Nicolas Becker.
The jackets heavily embroidered with metallic threads and embellished with cabochon stones recalled the frock coats of the Louis XVI collection for spring 2018 he presented in the medieval part of the Louvre. Sparkling skirts that bubbled below the knees seemed to be a callback to spring 2021, a pandemic-time show he staged without an audience. The swirling asymmetric hems of the spectacular fringy evening numbers evoked the deconstructed scuba-suit dresses from his resort 2017 show in Rio.
