Rahul Mishra

This year, Rahul Mishra opened the show with his collection Becoming Love. The collection was breathtaking, leaving the audience in awe. The collection seemed reminiscent of the stages of love with golds, whites, silver, greens, reds, and blacks. Each piece features various floral prints and intricate sequin work. Some pieces had a grandeur effect, with gorgeous veils covering faces.

According to Manifest, Mishra drew inspiration from the seven stages of love in Sufi thought, a spiritual path in Islam that emphasizes love, inner purity, and a profound connection with God, as well as from the painting “The Kiss.” The collection told a story of love that evolved from attraction to infatuation, to surrender, to reverence, to devotion, and ultimately to obsession, ending with one dissolving altogether. The collection embodied the idea that love grows and changes over time.

Mishra wove the path of love into the clothes, with the collection evoking happy feelings at the beginning and slowly turning into a darker mood as it continued. The collection was a mix of womenswear and menswear and used Indian embroidery techniques, such as Zardozi, to bring his floral prints to life.

Isha Jajodia

Designer Isha Jajodia debuted her collection, showcasing a romantic and poetic aesthetic. From lehengas, saris, and dresses, Jajodia’s showcases tailored masterpieces with intricate beaded and sequin work as well as corsetry that glisten in the light. The collection featured long dupattas that resembled veils and capes. The collection also included coordinated jackets to complement certain looks. The fabrics were well thought out, featuring sheer materials that effectively showcased the intricate embellishments and panel work.

The Outlook Luxe described the collection as a mix of icy lilacs, soft driven grey, rose quartz, and onyx black. The collection took viewers into another world where femininity is powerful, personal, and poetic, and the audience is confronted with it all.

Tarun Tahiliani

Designer Tarun Tahiliani unveiled the collection, Quintessence, which featured some designs that seemed to draw inspiration from the 1920s flapper girl, with feather headpieces, fringed skirts, and corsetry. Some models seemed to be walking in pairs that resembled a groom and bride walking together. It was as if a wedding took place on the runway with happy couples walking down the aisle.

Elle explains that the collection told a story of the power of precision with cuts and corsets, structured jackets, paneled frock-like silhouettes, draped lehengas, and fluid sarees. The collection consisted of almond, ivory, rose, and gold, with pops of black and ruby, featuring flowy silhouettes.

The Future of Indian Couture

All of the collections thus far embody a grandeur aesthetic, intertwining tradition with a modern twist. These collections have paved a path for the future of Indian fashion within couture, weaving a piece of history into each of the garments that will be passed down for generations.
