My personal style is all about high-impact dressing. The photos show exactly how I mix volume, texture, and color. I believe in making an immediate statement. Montmartre Paris Tour

Join our in-house luxury concierge, Charlotte Smith, for a day and night in Montmartre with Parisi Tour Experiences. Discover bohemian chic, iconic landmarks, and exclusive fashion from Sacre-Coeur to Madame Arthur’s.

My personal style is about stories. I love Nordic and French ready-to-wear. The Montmartre Day and Night Experience

The tour began in a vintage Citroën 2CV. This car is pure French nostalgia. My driver whisked me away from Soho House. We started our journey in style. Montmartre’s spirit is unmatched. It’s a bohemian fantasy for everyone.

The Guided Walk

An expert local guide led the way. We explored the area’s rich history. The guide shared amazing stories. We saw the beautiful Mur des Je t’aime. The Moulin Rouge looked magnificent. We also walked through the Place du Tertre. Artists were painting portraits there. This tradition dates back centuries. The atmosphere felt truly magical.

We also visited the Musée de Montmartre. It’s a temple to local art. We enjoyed a wine and cheese tasting. We were in the beautiful Renoir Gardens.

My Montmartre Love Story

Montmartre holds a special place. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Sacre-Coeur, is a landmark. It is also the most romantic place for me. I once asked my first French boyfriend to take me to the most romantic place in Paris, and he took me there. We climbed the steps together. From the top, we saw all of Paris. He looked at me with a smile. “Have you ever kissed a French boy?” he asked. The answer was no, until that moment. I am now writing a book about that story. It is about a Parisian girl who fell in love. Even though I a French and grew up in NYC, he was my first love affair.

Montmartre: Montmartre means “martyr’s hill.” It was a village outside Paris. Artists flocked here for low rents. It became the birthplace of modern art. It was annexed to Paris in 1860. The area’s history is vibrant.

What Celebrities Lived Here? Near the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th, during the Belle Époque, many artists lived, worked, or had studios in or around Montmartre, including Many creatives who called Montmartre home. Pablo Picasso lived in the Bateau-Lavoir. Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo lived here. Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted his masterpieces here. Erik Satie also lived in Montmartre.

Paris Noir: The Rich History of African Americans in Paris

The story goes back as far as Sally Hemings in 1787-89 and Frederick Douglass in 1887, but the wave of expatriates started largely when Black Americans came to Europe in uniform in great numbers during The Great War. Most were excluded from the front lines-with a few notable exceptions like the Harlem Hellfighters, and instead were assigned support or service roles. But their experience in France was far different from how they were treated in Jim Crow America in the early 20th century. So some of them decided to stay. Having served as cooks, labourers, porters and musicians, many found work in the Paris clubs, where they built the foundation of the Jazz Age in Paris, at places such as the Moulin Rouge.

In the 1920s, Josephine Baker burst onto the scene. It is impossible to overstate how much of a superstar she was in Paris. Her shows were legendary, and she lit up the Jazz Age with her creativity and attitude. She paved the way for other musicians and performers who spent time in Paris, where they were welcomed and celebrated: Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Sidney Bechet, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Nina Simone and more.

A Night to Remember

The night part of the tour was wild. We went to Madame Arthur’s. This is a legendary Pigalle cabaret. The drag creatures of Madame Arthur’s performed. The show was energetic and theatrical. We enjoyed a delicious dinner. We also received a bottle of champagne. This part of the tour was pure fun.

My Style Journey: Body Positivity and Fashion

Recently, a birthday dinner triggered a flashback to high school, reminding me of the judgment that can sometimes surround fashion. Growing up in Queens, NY, with my grandmother and aunt, I learned early on to dress for my body, not fleeting trends. My upbringing instilled in me a love for style, an appreciation for finding designer deals, and a focus on financial priorities. This foundation has served me well, especially as I’ve faced significant life changes.

After a month of fashion weeks, where I showcased trendy looks and spotted new trends to report. I was ready to embrace some of the season’s fun trends: rugby shirts, sparkly tops, baggy jeans, and balaclavas. As a Gen X’er, these styles are familiar friends, having made the rounds in my fashion life.

My initial dinner outfit plan revolved around that effortlessly chic London-to-Paris weekend vibe: slouchy denim, oversized knits, elevated athleisure, and maybe a touch of leather. The goal? Stylish, but not too casual, always ready for impromptu content shoots with my amazing crew. (If you’re a fashion creator, you understand the drill!)

My Sunday afternoon took an unexpected turn. While prepping for a shoot, I decided to throw in an extra look – my favourite DYNAMITE pencil skirt paired with different tops. Running late, this became my dinner outfit. Since most attendees work in fashion, I figured a slightly more “intense” look at 1:30 pm wouldn’t raise eyebrows. (New York roots, remember?)

My friends loved it! They complimented the look, noting its sexier vibe. But later, as the dinner wrapped up, I experienced that high-school flashback. The lingering glance, the whispered comments… “Hey Charlotte, let’s unpack your outfit.” Vixen on top, 80s Madonna skirt, “walk of shame” shoes. Were they making fun?

My friend’s pep talk was exactly what I needed.  A reminder of my Caribbean-New York roots, my rich and layered style references, and the confidence I usually have in my fashion sense. It was like dusting off that self-assurance after a stumble. Then, a DM from another dear friend: “Charlotte, I love this look for you, you look young and happy.” Positive vibes are essential, especially as I focus on my health and prepare for upcoming surgery.

This journey has taught me that personal style is a powerful tool for self-expression and self-acceptance. It’s about finding what makes you feel good, regardless of trends or others’ opinions.

Nadine Merabi Pop-Up

The NADINE MERABI  boutique officially opened on the  7th of December, 2023. The brand’s first store in the heart of London’s West End right in time for party dress season. Based at 42 South Molton Street, the pop – up store will be open for six weeks, covering the brand’s most in-demand time of year: the festive season. The store houses a partywear edit from the AW23 collection, including the much coveted ‘Heidi’ and ‘Cecille’ sequined jumpsuits and ‘Luna’ mini dress, as well as the brand’s hero designs such as the ‘Darcie’ pyjamas and ‘Kira’ suit.  

It was lovely to Meet Nadine and Blue we had a wonderful time getting to know the team. They were a pleasure to work with and support other female entrepreneurs. We will wear Nadine Merabi this holiday season and during Haute Couture, so watch this space. 

As CEO, I had to grab a jumpsuit and was gifted the PJs because we have supported the brand since its inception.  We have dressed a few clients who we talent manage too. 

Nadine Merabi Pop-Up Store London

South Molton Street was carefully chosen to launch the first-ever pop-up store as a world-famous shopping destination at the meeting point of London’s most renowned retail streets: Oxford Street and Bond Street. Across two floors, the store’s visual aesthetic is monochrome and straightforward, allowing the product to do all the talking.

The glass-fronted shop front is home to a visual display of looks from the brand’s Million Dollar Moments campaign: The ‘Selena’ Jumpsuit, ‘Josie’ Minidress and the ‘Adriana’ gown. The festive season is the perfect time for MERABI to open a pop-up store; December is when the brand comes into its own – when sequins and feathers can be worn day or night. 

Having led the direct-to-consumer space for seven years, the brand thrives online and on social media and took this leap into the physical domain as a first step in its retail expansion.  The event was buzzing with fashion editors and fashion influencers looking stunning in looks from the collection.

This opening marks the first time customers can see and experience the quality and craftsmanship of the products first-hand outside of the MERABI Website.  I love shopping and trying things on, but I am not a fan of shopping online. Nothing ever fits the way I want it to.  I love to shop in small boutiques.

Nadine Merabi Affordable Luxury

The brand is working on an activation plan to launch wholesale partnerships across the UK and US and a series of pop-ups throughout 2024. We would love to see one in New York and Cannes and send all our girlies to it.  MERABI plans to continue creating immersive pop-ups for its customers in a physical retail environment throughout 2024. As the challenging retail landscape is set to continue, Co-Founders Nadine Merabi and Blue Wilson believe offering customers exciting physical moments is more critical than ever.

Shown during Copenhagen Fashion Week, August 2023, the Spring Summer 2024 collection is Invigorated by the luxurious surroundings of the renowned Hotel D’Angleterre. The Daring ROTATE woman strides through the grand hotel halls from day to night today, creating an empowering moment of defiance. Rotate is a brand from Birger Christensen, created in partnership with influencers and stylists Jeanette Madsen and Thora Valdimarsdottir. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the brand has taken the world by storm with its sexy minidresses and covetable pieces for the going out wardrobe.

Ornate elegance meets punky disobedience for ROTATE’s Spring Summer 2024 Collection.  Imagined in the gilt of one of Paris’s most renowned hotels, this season brings the sensory experience of the antique to the modern day with ROTATE’s autograph flair. Like this look is giving us a little Josephine Baker. 

Reflecting on the camaraderie between tradition and rebellion, the great designers of the 90s London act as a source of inspiration, where punk met couture and changed the course of fashion forever. Style Cartel is here for it. We wanna be down with ROTATE Tribe.

The ROTATE Spring Summer 2024 collection is created for the sophisticated rebel. Emphasis is placed on form, motion and tactility. Most significantly, fashioning the mesmerising effect of feathers, without using animal products, through tassels, gathered and tufted toile.  Care is taken to material choices throughout the collection, proudly boasting 92% certified material usage. Crafted from simple silhouettes, iconic models in the brand’s canon are rediscovered with delicate seasonal fabrics, colours and intricate details. 

COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK

This Red Carpet number is a wow factor. Heavy on contrast, components of romanticism are coupled with touches of raw and sexy, from sweeping toile frill finishes and graceful bell sleeves lined with sequins to heavily ripped denim, eye-lit details and tasselled PU biker jackets, trousers and skirts. Crisp-coated poplin shirts and suiting are reimagined with cropped torsos, in-built corsetry, thigh-high waisted shorts and slim-fitting trousers in a stretch fabric, reinvigorating the power of the female silhouette whilst utilising traditionally masculine forms. 

A soft colour palette of delicate pink, blue, and natural greys is disrupted with flashes of vivid hues. Elegant yet unexpected, the collection is completed by LES PETITS JOUEUERS heels. Classic strappy heeled sandals are decorated with glamourous mirror embellishment, whilst the iconic half-moon wedge heel references the avant-garde and transparent fixtures convey rebellious sex-appeal.

Givenchy RTW Fall 2023

Fall 2023 marked Matthew M. Williams’ most promising Givenchy collection yet. He designed for every female demographic, from tough chic to sexy vixen, with sharp edges, softened, right down to the plush pumps. Finding inspiration from Balenciaga to Rick Ownes sprinkled with a little Rodarte.

The American designer gave lustrous cashmere and soigné tuxedo satins carved into coats with bathrobe sleeves, with sloping shoulders. Gently defined waists and dramatic box pleats fanning out behind. There were flowing silks for blouses with long ties drifting to the floor or sheer dresses in near-fluorescent colours.

Runway Report

“Everything has an ease to it. It still has a strong shoulder and silhouette, but you can throw it on,” he explained. “There’s a comfort to the double-face cashmere. And lots of different body types can wear these silhouettes.”

When Williams arrived at Givenchy in 2020, mid-pandemic, he inherited coed formats and was obliged to start with showroom presentations and lookbooks. Only last June, he finally uncoupled his shows, which unlocked something in him. And we are here for it!

Williams cited no specific theme, plucking flower and fish prints from the 1970s and 1980s, the time of founder Hubert de Givenchy, and interpreting them in different fabrics and body-skimming dresses.

He didn’t highlight any new hardware this time but pointed to a new top-handled handbag that appeared approximately the size and texture of a border terrier. 

“We’re calling it the Ugly bag because it’s so ugly, it’s beautiful. I love what’s ugly about it,” he said with a chuckle. “It looks like a little animal that will speak to you.”

Made from beautifully textured Japanese cotton – woven by artisans using time-honoured techniques in Ibara, Japan – it gets even better with age. The structural form is contrasted with easy volume, while the utilitarian feel of Denim is offset with playful details – the puffed sleeves, the patch pockets trimmed with ruffles, and the side splits on the skirt. Finished with dark-blue topstitching, adjustable corozo button cuffs on the sleeves, and neatly bound hems in contrasting lilac, it’s an actual forever piece.

House of Jaffa is a contemporary resort brand, creating a genderless, expressive and sex-positive vision of dressing. Established by Golan Frydman and Eddie Gavriilidis, the collection combines they’re shared aesthetics and backgrounds. 

The duo met in London where Golan, the Israeli-born designer, helmed his high-end fashion brand FYODOR GOLAN, which is known for its bold, colourful designs and collaborations with leading pop figures such as Madonna, Rihanna and Arianna Grande and mega brands such as Coca-Cola Microsoft and MTV.

The collection was made for Goddesses and Gods. By the looks of the models, they delivered sexiness to the runway. Garments look as if Cleopatra and Ceasar would be them. With Meditterannian blues and gold dripping everywhere. The designers wanted wearers and onlookers to get their sexy back.

Even though we hear Isreal has a swinging Gay scene. The duo aims to create an escapist and romantic mosaic of visuals and emotions. Both appealing and toxic’s social conceptions of masculinity are challenged into an unapologetic aesthetic.” @house_of_jaffa
