Prince’s estate and his long-time friend, dancer Damaris Lewis, have collaborated with cosmetic brand Urban Decay to release a limited-edition makeup collection honouring the late musician.

On April 21, 2016, Prince Rogers Nelson, also known as Prince, passed away. He was a musician, singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer, and dancer who played several instruments. Including keyboards, drums and bass he is seen as an overall icon in the music industry.

A variety of products are included in the collection, including two palettes, two eyeliners, a highlighter, a powder and a brush emblazoned with Prince’s ‘love symbol’.

Each of the eyeshadow colour is named after one of Prince’s songs, while the packaging is a purple hue, the artist’s favourite colour.

Prince’s creative director Trevor Guy collaborated with Demaris Lewis, as well as photographer Randee Saint Nicholas, who photographed everything for the campaign.

Even though Prince’s Estate is still up for sale following his death five years ago, the team worked hard to ensure everything about the collection honoured the late singer’s memory.

Urban Decay founder Wende Zomnir first became obsessed with Prince when she was a child in the ’80s.

“We tried to copy his music, the way he dressed, the way he did his makeup”

“In the era of Urban Decay, it wasn’t about aspiring to look like a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white woman”

“We helped people aspire to be like themselves like Prince did for me and my generation”

As a brand that focuses on self-expression through beauty since the 1990s, Urban Decay stands out among competitors.

On May 21, the Prince X Urban Decay capsule will be available for pre-order, and a special capsule that contains all seven products will be launching May 27. In addition, the seven products will be available separately at online retailers beginning June 6.
