MATTE PACKS OUT INDUSTRIAL BUSHWICK SPACE
On March 31, MATTE stimulated the senses with an orchestration of form, sound, and culture. Style Cartel supports the new artist and artistic music pioneers and this event was lit supporting creative minds.
For just one night on March 31st, creative house Matte presented its annual event BLACK, an immersive experience that unifies music, design, and contemporary art. The event was the largest BLACK iteration yet, selling out with over 5,000 attendees at the new Bushwick space, Avant Gardner.
Matte BLACK VIP attendees included Rita Ora, Binx Walton, Kesewa Aboah, Amrit, Cyril Foiret, Calu Rivero, Marina Testino, Rameet Chawla, Chloe Wise, Adesuwa Pariyapasirt, Jacob Morton, Rebecca Dayan, Matt Hitt, Andrew Watt, Nate Brown, Nicky Ottav, and more.
BLACK’s stellar production transformed the raw space to feel infinite with immaculate light and sound installations from visual artists such as COCOLAB and Tavares Strachan, as well as DJ sets from world-renowned artists including Resident Advisor’s perennial #1 DJ worldwide, Innervisions Records founder: Dixon, Berlin’s co-founder of Magazine: Barnt, LA’s Dig Deeper head honcho Masha, Berlin’s DJ Hell, polymath Veronica Vasicka, and Miami’s underground queen Jubilee, and a live performance from Frank Ocean producer, NOLIFE.
Perfumery FOLIE À PLUSIEURS challenged the audience’s sense of smell by debuting a MATTE No. 1 fragrance composed with Lucas Sieuzac designed to capture the enigmatic spirit of BLACK. Sculpture met performance with pieces from Los Angeles- based performance artist Symrin Chawla‘s and the art-meets-fashion group, New York Sunshine.
BLACK prides itself on uniting new and established talent both on and off the dancefloor. Previous artists include Tale of Us, Gesaffelstein, Jon Hopkins, Virgil Abloh, Seth Troxler, Thugfucker, Twin Shadow, Little Dragon, Klangkarussell, DIIV, and Max Cooper with visual artists Zach Walker, Cara Stricker, Jesper Just, Nate Brown, Virgil Abloh and Toki Series.
