We’re always searching for the next best thing, and our holidays are no different. Recently the popularity of taking a holiday that’s not only just lying around on the beach, have seen a huge increase, with more and more of us yearning for activities and sports to take part in. Traditionally, our annual family holiday was spent lazing around on the beach or laying by the pool with a good book. Of course, this will never fade away completely, but travellers are now looking to “relax” in a completely different way.
Travellers want more
Whether you’re looking to climb Mount Kilimanjaro or base jump off a cliff, it seems the modern traveller is more of a thrill-seeker, longing for more than just sun, sea and sand. According to the Global Report on Adventure Tourism, “Adventure travellers are early adopters by nature, meaning they are generally more willing to try new destinations, activities, and travel products”, could this be the reason for the spike in activity heavy holidays?
The new Instagram trends
With many of us striving to be like our favourite influencers, it seems as though the continuing trend of travelling to the places they’re seen in their posts is set to continue. When searching, we often look for the most Instagrammable locations, you know the ones. Flowery backdrops, crisp white buildings and multi-coloured, vibrant doors.
Not only that, but many of us are yearning for those kayak shots with glistening waterfalls in the background and yoga poses on the top of glorious mountains. But remember, activities are not only good for our Instagram feeds, they’re also good for our mind, body and soul.
Popular locations to explore
When planning your next adventure, don’t stick with the same old same old. Explore new destinations further afield like Iceland, Norway and South America with the likes of guided tour provider, Jules Verne. These types of activity holidays will open you up to so many places you would have never thought to venture too. They even offer expeditions to Antarctica if you’re feeling particularly brave and are yearning for the ultimate activity holiday!
No matter where you choose to visit, activity holidays are set to surpass lazy poolside trips twofold, with more and more of us wanting to take part in watersports, mountain treks, cycling tours and more.
