ISABEL MARANT PFW SPRING SUMMER 2016 Collection
For her Spring Summer 20016 collection Isabel Marant took a stab at sportswear. The ISABEL MARANT PFW S/S 2016 show was held at the open spaces of the Palais Royal and all her followers had a seat. Now that Instagram equals sales designer’s gear their collections towards recruiting more followers. The designer was a late comer to social media and sportswear, but you could not tell by the audience and her many followers of the brand. For the past few seasons luxe sportswear has been a big trend, that no designer or brand can ignore. So how did the designer do interpreting the trend you may ask? Did she know Athleisure , would officially be a word in 2016?
From the first look we know where the designers heart was, the designer rested with the people, the cultures and music she admires and grew up around. The bibliography reads, Moroccan carpets, Greecian inspired sandals and all-weather gear including stylish track pants.
We already see the hints that the ready to wear attire would be festival and vacation ready. Her women are sporty, lady adventures and can boogie too. Michèle Lamy the wife and muse of fashion designer Rick Owens seemed like a obviouse reference here. The designer only displayed a few hints of color, while the outfits that were mystrious looking came in black like Michele would wear.

Since the designer’s signature is inherited cultural interpretations it was no surprise to see the designer went tribal, with long coats, a few pairs of metallic silver disco shorts, chunky jewellery, sporty metallic bomber jackets, crew necks, parachute pants, Moroccan inspired duster coats and tassels sandals.
Stand out pieces were ruffled skater skirts matched with pants. It was the mixture of Latin American crossed with North Africa and a sprinkle of India. It referenced how women in these countries wear similar garments and in the way they are constructed. Now in updated pieces with the designers urbanity.
The sporty metallic disco shorts and high-waisted bathing suit bottoms gave a sexy touch to the collection and made you want to dance or jump on your surfboard. A collection that has interchangeable pieces for day and night.
The Isabel Marant women was also so pretty in pink with pale pink spring sweaters with long sleeves, skirts, dresses, jumpsuits and pants
Again we see the late Eighties early Nineties Hip-Hop and R&B vibe, appear on the runways of Paris Fashion Week, with pieces inspired by Flavor Flav’s yellow Dungarees. A parka flowed down as a skirt, tied by its arms at the waist like TLC.
The designer delivered on what we expected, Peasant blouses, floaty nothings and woven straps on leather bags. Colorful trims studded in mirrors, tribal prints, and festival ready fringes. Take note cool girls to what you will boogie in at Afropunk or Art Basel this Spring and Summer.
Marant is recruiting strong independent women to her tribe. An NO THEY DON’T WANT NO SCRUBS. The designer has kept her cool and gathered a gypset crew of followers that are a melting pot of cultures.
Her dab at sportswear proves she still has what the Instagram cools girls want and a mature women who has money to spend.
