In September HENRY – NEW COCKTAIL LOUNGE AT HUDSON HOTEL NEW YORK CITY– owned by Morgans Hotel Group debuted right in the middle of New York Fashion Week. The new cocktail bar and lounge featured an inventive and experimental mixology program at Hudson. Located just off the hotel’s lobby in midtown, Henry draws inspiration from the legendary explorer Henry Hudson and his boundless spirit of adventure. Spanning a wide variety of liquors, the cocktail menu was ingeniously crafted by the bar’s creative director and world-renowned mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana, a two-time UK bartender of the year who’s best known throughout London as the “Heston Blumenthal of cocktailing.” Harnessing the famed explorer’s passion for discovery and relentless spirit, Henry’s menu exhibits unique flavours and seasonal ingredients presented in classic, elegant serves, paying homage to the bespoke cocktail bars of the nineteenth century. Call it the new New York speakeasy; the mid-town location makes it an idle place for bridge and tunnel-ers to grab drinks after work, or kick off their saturday night with parking.
The menu features signature cocktails such as Polleno made with fresh sour apple, sweet apple, fino sherry and fennel pollen and The Living Cocktail made with miso caramel, homemade carrot vinegar and reposado tequila. Henry will be the first venue conceptualized by Chetiyawardana and developed outside of London. Chetiyawardana, also known as “Mr. Lyan,” has worked at some of the most heralded cocktail bars in the world, including 69 Colebrooke Row, Purl, Whistling Shoppe and Bramble. In addition to the exclusive cocktail offerings that push the envelope, the food menu at Henry will boast an array of snacks, including their signature “Bar Jars,” a mélange of sweet and savory tastes, layered into a mason jar that will be updated to complement the ever-changing beverage menu.
Henry will remain true to the hotel’s youthful feel with a high-energy atmosphere featuring both live jazz performances and regular appearances by resident DJs Paul Sevigny, Harley Viera-Newton and Vikas. The venue has been completely transformed, Henry pays homage to design elements from the original space by incorporating backlit chartreuse floor tiling and the iconic Francesco Clemente ceiling fresco, which has been restored. Here is one word of advice dress to impress, because the doorman has no mercy. He wants to bring the Henry Lounge back to the 90’s clubbing era of New York, where the doorman had the right to turn you away if you were not dressed for the party. If you’re on a hot date and need to check the score you can always sneak to the sports bar in back too.
