Scandinavian Menswear Designers
This is the first article the series that will feature some of the best Scandinavian men’s fashion designers and brands. In this article, we will look at Acne, Astrid Andersen and Our Legacy. Starting off with Astrid Andersen.
Astrid Andersen is a Danish, luxury sports-streetwear designer based in London. She combines streetwear with hip-hop and basketball. She has worked with rappers like A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg and her clothes have been worn by both Drake and Rihanna.
Astrid comes from a generation where tracksuits can have the same status as a suit. She leads the growing segment of elevated streetwear. Even though she describes her clothes to be sporty she doesn’t recommend you to go running in her clothes. It is an easy way to mix both looking stylish, with an edge and comfortable, all at the same time.
During the presentation of her Spring 2017 collection she also presented her first womenswear which received high praise from the industry. If you are looking for something chic and at the same time sporty I recommend that you check out Astrid Andersen.
Our Legacy is a Swedish fashion brand based in Stockholm, Sweden. It carries on some of the classic Scandinavian design with clean and simple lines. They never over design their outfits. However, one can see their passion for subcultures, modern art and their fascination for fabrics and natural, earthy colours. It is the perfect match for modern gentlemen, young and old, with a classic taste within fashion.
This Saturday, they released their collaboration with Vans: The Vault by Vans x Our Legacy.
The collection includes Vans’ classic footwear silhouettes in bold orange, black and white colours. As well as timeless Vans apparel that carries a striking blend of street culture and high quality design. It is worth to take a look at, both the collaboration pieces and their original designs.
Acne Studios is another Stockholm-based fashion house. This might be the most well-known of the three brands presented in this article. Their collections cover both men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, footwear, accessories and denim. The collections are created with an emphasis on tailoring and a wide-ranging use of materials and custom developed fabrics.
This year’s spring collection is about “the emptiness of the Swedish summer . . .” as creative director Jonny Johansson said. It is inspired by a classic Swedish summer element: The tent, old-fashioned tents. The collection’s ponchos spread out widely from the body, just like a tent, at the back. As someone who grew up camping, the 2017 Spring collection is something I highly recommend you to consider when looking for this year’s spring jacket.
