Back to the 90s we went as Prada left its hometown to present its second cruise collection on the seventh floor of the Herzog & de Meuron designed Prada HQ in New York. The star-studded event which saw the likes of Selena Gomez, Dakota Fanning, Marc Jacobs, Uma Thurman and Chloë Sevigny, was also live streamed in Times Square. Floating transparent panels hung in the minimalistic space, some in red to recreate an augmented sunset while mirroring the frenetic energy of New York.
The show started in a minimalistic manner. Sheer skirts in shades of black, brown and soft hues of sand and lilac, paired with high necks of a similar colour palette. It was not long before decorative pantsuits, woollen sequin and iridescent squares tights and jackets came into play in audacious yet fun prints, paired off with padded geometric patterned trapper hats and plastic chain link necklaces with psychedelic Seventies logos. Yet the real winner here is the stacked heel loafer, given a Prada-esque makeover in a knitted mesh wool and a chunky heel. The playful mood continued as the show went on. The Prada Cruise collection screamed more is more as opulent brocade was used on jacket-skirt co ords and sporty tracksuit pant with fringed hem, alongside mini skirts with gathered hemlines, polo shirts with 70s inspired Prada logo and trench coats, with materials heavy on brocade, nylon and leather towards the end of the show.
