Pantone announce the colour of the year 2019: Living Coral

2019 looks off to a promising start as Pantone announces the colour of the year: Living Coral. ‘An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge’, the upcoming colour carries deeper meanings going into the new year. Succeeding from 2018’s colour of Ultra-Violent, Living Coral is a more mellow and joyful response to counter the dramatically vibrant and provocative shade of 2018, chosen as a reaction to the digital age and social media which has become so embedded into our daily life. Living Coral hopes to open our eyes again to human connections and intimate experiences which have been overshadowed by the digital age.

“We get energy from nature,” a statement from Pantone reads. “Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

‘Colour is an equalising lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities and this is particularly true for Living Coral. With consumers craving human interaction and social connection the humanizing and heartening qualities displaced by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord’ says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the pantone colour institute.

As 2019 approaches, we hope you also carry the same optimism as Living Coral into the new year!
