A fantastic display from the Red Arrows
From the excitable children of Crèche Municipale de Monte-Carlo to those renting villas outside Monaco to escape the madness of the show, there’s one thing that everyone looks forward to during the Monaco Yacht Show – even if they are not directly attending. Arguably the most visually exciting of our Monaco Yacht Show 2018 highlights, the RAF Red Arrows airshow is something that has to be seen to be believed, and when the display began at 2.30pm on the Thursday of the event it stopped most people in their tracks. As Monaco directed its gaze to the sky planes danced in the air, pulling off ever-more impressive manoeuvres as they shot out patriotic red, white and blue smoke. This was the fourth year in a row that the RAF team performed in partnership with Pendennis, demonstrating their support for the British superyacht industry.
The latest and most exquisite superyachts
Around 40 new superyachts launched at Monaco Yacht Show last month, each one more extravagant than the next. Amongst our favourites were Tankoa’s new 72m vessel Solo, which combines gorgeous Italian design with eco-friendly sensibilities. With plush interiors and a spacious owner’s deck – complete with a private elevator that only the owner can use to access it – this 12-guest yacht has a modern yet opulent feel. Other amenities include a beach club, spa, swimming pool, gym and touch-n-go helipad, making it definitely the kind of yacht we can see ourselves living on. The yacht’s interior and exterior styling is by Francesco Paszkowski, so expect exquisite design detail and fascinating artwork at every turn.
In terms of Monaco Yacht Show 2018 highlights, new yachts don’t come much more eagerly anticipated than the 88.5m Illusion Plus, the first serious superyacht to come out China’s Pride Shipyards. Designed with neutral palette using Asian touches throughout – from a traditional table made from real tree trunk to oriental patterning in some of the heads – she is a vast and beautiful space. Onboard you can really see the yard’s commitment to internationally sourcing the best of yachting. From the Italian marble used to floor the bathrooms to the yacht’s Finnish captain, every effort has been taken to make this 12-guest vessel the greatest it can be. And with talks about Pride building similarly-sized superyachts underway, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
A glimpse into the future of yachting
Alongside the glitz and glamour of the show, there is also plenty of thought dedicated to the technology that helps these impressive yachts run. For techies, one of the most interesting Monaco Yacht Show 2018 highlights was surely the announcement by international systems integrator Videoworks that 5G would become prevalent in onboard living over the next few years, drastically improving the internet connection that can currently be achieved. With internet such a vital part of modern life, this will go a long way in making the yachting experience better for owners, guests and crew alike – another boost for the industry.
So those were the key Monaco Yacht Show 2018 highlights – the result of another amazing show. With all the excitement on offer, be sure not to miss next year’s edition!
