LFWM SS19: Blindness

by Sora Alfatlawi

Founded in 2015 by Seoul based designer duo, Kyu Shin & Ji Park, Blindness have been shortlisted in 2017, for the LVMH prize and awarded with ‘Best Design’ in Seoul Fashion Week for their SS18 collection. Stocked worldwide, Blindness has become defiant in disbanding gender norms and evoking self-expression and confidence in today’s binary society.

For their debut collection as part of London Fashion Week Men’s, the subject of ‘First Love’ was the focal point of their collection and the incomparable vulnerability of those who experience it. The juxtaposition of fabrics was a running theme throughout the show, soft romantic fabrics, layering and manipulation of materiality created both exaggerated and amorphous silhouettes. Ruffled, flowing tulle in hues of brown, nude, black and blue, tartan co-ords, a trench coat with a tulle sleeve, oxford shirts, leather pants, capes and long printed tunics, while mesh, frills and pearl facial coverings added to the encapsulating emotions of the collections
