Get the Look|Natalie Dormer’s Subtle Drama

by Tillie Eze

Celebrity makeup artist, Matthew VanLeeuwen prepped Natalie Dormer for the New York City premiere of “Mockingjay Part 2”. To complement her Vivienne Westwood gown, VanLeeuwen focused on the eyes ensuring not to compete with the dramatics of the dress.

Inspiration: “Natalie Dormer is wearing a full flowing gown by Vivienne Westwood which helped to inspire her hair and makeup look. We decided to keep it on the simple side, to not overwhelm the dress.

How-to Eyes: Start by prepping the skin by dabbing primer onto the face following with a silky foundation and beige concealer.

N DormerMaquillage“The makeup was balanced, yet the eyes were the focus of Dormer’s face. The eyes were beautifully shaded using the Votre Vu Palette Play in Violette. I was able to coordinate the shadow with the tone of the dress, which is rose gold and blue.”

With the lightest shade, Chiffon, apply all over the eyelid like a primer. Continue by sweeping the pink shade, Raw Silk, onto the lid and upwards to the crease.

Take the plum shade, Moiré, deep in to the outer corner of the crease to create more dimension. Line the lower and upper lash line with Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon in Aubergine.

“The color was perfect because I didn’t want the harshness of  black and liked the way the aubergine played against the color of the dress.”

The eyes were completed with a Lancôme  mascara in black applied in a two layer coat.  “It is a classic natural dramatic eye.”

Cheeks: “On the cheeks, I applied NARS blush in Deep, which is a moldy pink color that also harmonized the makeup and the dress color.”

Lips: “The last touch was the lips.” Outline and shade the lips with Votre Vu Drawmatic Lip Liner in Naked. Shape down the center of the upper lips, then shade with the Votre Vu French Kiss in LouLou. At the end, go back to the center of the lips with the liner to perfect its shape.
