Rome’s Villa Borghese is a hotspot to check out, but last Friday was the opening party for the Azzedine Alaïa. COUTURE / SCULPTURE. The designer is the subject of a major retrospective, Couture/Sculpture, juxtaposing three decades of his work with the Galleria Borghese’s masterpieces.
Azzedine Alaïa. COUTURE / SCULPTURE
Thanks to the Galleria Borghese’s vision, the exhibition opened last Saturday, July 11th, 2015, with the debut of the Azzedine Alaïa’s Couture Sculptures. His couture work will be displayed within harmony with the Museum’s timeless dimensions. The exhibition is held throughout the entire gallery, embodying the on going transformation of time, adapting and responding to the pace set by Alaia’s creations.
The fact that Alaia’s work is perceived as organic, crafted of a multiplicity of fabrics, leathers, and metals, enlivening his disciplined forms conceived as elementals in tension, has earned him recognition as an artist as well has couturier. Alaia’s work as a couturier and his attention to shapes, show a celebration of the silhouette that only Galleria Borghese can host, a historic place that continues to promote the transformation of base matter into perfect forms. This must has to be on the bucket list of places to visit this summer in Italy for the fashion-loving tourist.
