If you have followed the career of Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing then you know he is in love with the ‘80s. The Balmain Pre-Fall 17 Womenswear Collection Looks are reminiscent of a disco nights and mixed with the mosh pit.
The collection is filled with a lot of gold, black, plaid and rocker chic leather.
For the last few months, a playlist of ‘80s hard rock has been blaring in Balmain’s studio and echoing in my head 24/7, as my team and I worked on a men’s collection that was inspired by those bands and their full-throated screams of rebellion.
There was bound to be some spillover. So, that’s how this Pre-Fall collection, which I was working on at the same time, also ended up channeling that soundtrack’s invigorating spirit of defiance.
With studded leathers, intricate embellishments and explosions of colorful plaids reminding us of those rockers confident style.
Their celebration of making one’s own choices qualities that are already very much a part of the character of the women making up the Balmain Army.
We see more new faces in this Balmain Army. It will be interesting who will pick up the rebellion rocker trend from the house.
