DESIGNER TO WATCH

Neith Nyer

Today’s DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT is about Neith Nyer.  This Paris fashion week creative director Francisco Terra for the brand Neith Nyer blew my mind.  This is what fashion should be about, a cool location off the beaten track, wicked casting and fabulous clothes that speak to this generation. I always wished I was a fashion editor in the 80’s when it was the rise of the supermodel again, when  fashion students were the one’s to watch and it was a party frenzy after shows. For this Style Editor Neith Nyer reminded me of what fashion is all about.  Turning something old in to art and something new.  We had heard the designer was on of the ones to watch, and we were hoping that this latenight show would wow us and the Neith Nyer showed definitely did.

On this cold night during Paris Fashion Week, while major editors were leaving YSL headed to quaint diner parties we headed to  the 11 arrondissement to see for ourselves what the buzz was about with Neith Nyer.  It was only the brands  just second collection during Paris Fashion Week and this morning we know that who ever skipped it wished they had not.  As the fashion crowd already knows, street wear is what is selling, but not all brands understand it.  You have to mix a bit of hip-hop with a little Luxe Couture.  The collection slayed, from full furs to hoop earring on the boys and girls that seemed to be attached to a necklace that hung down the models backs!   I want to join the growing covet of Neith Nyer.

Neith Nyer FW1617 the Haunted Season

The Fall/Winter 16/17 collection found its inspiration in a popular card game, Le loup-garou de Thiercelieux. Each character has been re-interpreted, other ones added, to build a full set of strong individuals. As well as the werewolf, the cupid angel and the witch, you will discover for instances the hustler, the bourgeoise, the hunter.. They all compose a bizarre yet deeply linked community.  It was like the show Empire, Lil Kim, and Puffy Daddy in his heyday. Street with a little fur to make you go ohh.  It is for those who want to run with the wolves.

“I am not afraid to take my inspiration in the very common, like a full night I spent playing this game with my family in the countryside of Britanny. It is from the very usual that I find the opportunity to develop my creative universe. The girl of the next collection is fearless and sensitive_ She loves horror movies_ She wakes up in the morning and grabs an alpaca coat to sleep in on the metro while going to work. The same night, she’ll wear fine lingerie and a fanzine inspired t-shirt to go meet her friends. It doesn’t take much to look special: a detail, and odd cut catches attention much more than a punchy print.”Francisco Terra for the brand Neith Nyer

The creative director could not have said it better.  Style should be effortless if you have the right pieces and a fur always makes anything look good.  The Neith Nyer collection is a ones to watch for sure and we are keeping our eye on pieces for men and women with the street edge and little French fashion flair. We loved the jeans in the collection with the cut outs on the side, furs of course, and the ode to Chanel with the tweed pieces. It will be interesting to see where the brands goes in the next few seasons, but defiantly fan girling now.
