CMMN SWDN ‘s creative designers Saif Bakir and Emma Hedlund – who both worked with Kanye West on his old womenswear collection – introduced a 70’s-styled fall 16 collection, named “Domus”. The exact same name as the Paris neighbourhood ‘s based very big supermarket dedicated to the Home; CMMN SWDN Fall 16 collection played with a kind of parallel connection directly linked to the interior object we usually meet. As much the textures, the fabrics, the cuts, and the colors of the clothes, as the modern and elegant interior design set of the show made of wood. Everything makes us remember of an interior design, strictly composed of exclusive brilliant pieces; where the clothes may prove to be an extension or an expansion of your own home. It gives off the idea of an endless cycle: the clothes match the home set and so make you remember it; and then the home, in turn, matches the clothes and so makes you remember the clothes. It can sound like an exhausting thing with time, but, it doesn’t.
Rich colors, retro proportions, layering, fluffy patterns, have been mixed up with more standard menswear pieces. Pony skin biker jackets and chelsea boots with relaxed, elasticized trousers. Traditional duffel coat (in camel wool on one side and an oversize knitted check on the other) , but this time the duo Bakir-Hedlund made it reversible – outerwear statement -.
Striped shirt, black narrow pants, leather pants too. The shape of the boots are not that usual one we used to see nowadays, it’s part of the 70’s inspiration which matches with today’s tastes very good. Maybe contradictory to hear, but it is interesting enough to notice that the vintage style is the “new” dada. Moreover, when it comes to hear people say: “it’s fresh and modern” but just keep in mind that the inspiration is from old years…
A warm color palette made out of brown, black, camel, charcoal grey and mustard; what is actually making the collection’s contrasting textures. Emma Hedlund and Saif Bakir stay focused on the present, making the brand CMMN SWDN what it really is – and at the same time, they gave that past look inspired by the 70’s which offer to the demand what it expects today.
