Is black people in fashion a new trend?

black people: a new trend?

Black people/models were here during Paris Fashion Week! We see more of them on podiums. Is this progress real or is it just a trend?

To black people, there is an evolution. Now we see more black models on podiums, in campaigns and that’s great! It was about time. Did people finally realized that black is beautiful? Did they notice that people of color were not correctly represented? All of these questions don’t have an answer yet and maybe they never will. We just have to wait and see.

During Junko Shimada SS19 show something in the audience brung attention. As soon as a model with an afro or a Black model came. Everyone rushed to put their phone out and record or take a picture? Some would say that it’s a normal thing in the area of social media, but this time it was different. It felt like it was an attraction, something that was out of normal. The thing to record.

Why ?

Why this attention all of a sudden? Where are all of this people when it’s time to hire black people? So many black people can’t find a job or an apartment because of the color of their skin. How many girls go to work with an afro and are called inappropriate? How many of them won’t go to school or work with their natural hair because of the comments they will get?

It’s not the first time that Junko Shimada did this. During her autumn winter collection, she had a lot of black people on the catwalk. What she did was a great thing, some people needed to see models with afros walking on the runway but the attention didn’t feel right. We need to normalize this, more afros and more black models!
