The 60 Second Cheat Code That Will Change Your Skin Forever

by Candace Lachon

Want the cheat code to more even and softer skin? Wash your face for 60 seconds. Yes, you read that right. No, this isn’t another gimmicky skincare article. I’ve tried it, and it works!

One of Twitter’s favorite Esthetician’s @LaBeautyologist tweeted this a few months ago, and it went viral. The 60 second rule featured in Cosmopolitan

It seems so obvious to wash your face for longer than 15 seconds. I mean DUH. But most of us don’t, and it shows. So here’s what you can expect:

Immediate Results
  • Noticeably softer skin
  • The appearance of minimized pores (this could happen immediately, or you may see it after a few days)
Long-Term Results
  • Smoother skin texture
  • More even, brighter complexion
  • Helps with hyperpigmentation
Some Tips...

Your Cleanser Matters — Cleanser can make or break your skincare routine. Just because it goes down the drain doesn’t mean it should be overlooked. Keep in mind, cleansers shouldn’t strip your skin or leave it feeling dry or tight. If it does, my best advice is to find a cleanser that’s gentle enough for your skin type but also effectively cleans. My holy grail cleansers at the moment are LaRoche-Posay’s Gentle Cleansers, suitable for any skin type (also sold in Duane Reade btw).

Use Your Fingers — Be gentle, and always massage in upward circles. Gravity be hating.

The Fresh Prince Theme Song — How can you keep track of the 60 seconds? @LaBeautyologist tweeted you can sing the Fresh Prince theme song. So..not only did she give us a cheat code, but we also have an excuse to sing the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Be Consistent — This means cleansing your face in the morning and night. When you want to see results, it almost always comes down to consistency. Sigh, but totally worth it.

Is the 60 second cheat code going to give you perfect skin? No. But it will assist in your skins overall health and general appearance. Give it a shot tonight. You have nothing to lose besides another 60 seconds of mindlessly scrolling through your Instagram and Twitter. (Don’t worry, I include myself in this drag.)
