For the last year, I have been using the Skin Alchemists Apothecary oils in my beauty routine. As a seasoned woman for the past two years, I have to take my skincare very seriously. Fighting the first signs of ageing is hard. Raised by a Caribbean grandmother who came from a family of herbalists. She would go to her garden for cures and use oils on our young skin to cure anything that ailed us from burns to eczema. Her garden could cure anything.
The creator of Skin Alchemists Apothecary seems to have been cut from a similar cloth. Theresa was born and raised on the Caribbean island of St Lucia, she comes from a family of herbalists. Harnessing the medicinal power of plants to treat ailments and skin conditions is in her DNA. After migrating to London, her skin and health fell victim to the adverse effects of fast-paced city life, air pollution and processed food.
Skin Alchemists Apothecary
A city girl myself, I was sent to the Bahamas every summer to swim in the saltwater and be catered to by my aunts who create home remedies to fight my server eczema outbreaks. As a child, my skin was so sensitive, and the sea salt in the Caribbean was the only thing that stopped me from scratching my poor skin. I luckily I outgrew it, but still, get outbreaks when I am nervous.
Skin Alchemists Apothecary: Natural and Organic Skincare
Theresa saw there was a niche for herbal solutions to city life. I all happened when she came back from a trip to St Lucia. After observing an almost immediate increase to her energy levels attributed to eating fresh, organic foods. Her skin became clear and glowing from swimming in the mineral salts of the ocean and masking with volcanic mud from the Sulphur Springs. Returning to London, she was inspired to replicate these natural benefits by creating a line of organic skincare formulated using ancient remedies and potent plant alchemy.
Plant-Powered Luxury Skincare
I have been living a more healthy lifestyle inside and out, and these products fit into my lifestyle. Since I have been eating right, exercising and watch what ingredients are in my food and beauty products, my face has never looked and felt better. I am looking younger because of my lifestyle choices. Essential oils are essential to our well being, and they are calming and smell delightful. I even put some in my belly button.
When I feel my skin is fatigued and dirty, I start my nighttime beauty ritual with the Humble Warrior. Oil cleansing is thought to stem from ancient bathing practices. In biblical times it was custom to be anointed with oil to cleanse the soul. It is designed to combine both methods and bring to an otherwise routine practice – a moment of pause, breath, release, acceptance and surrender. This is totally the reason I use it at night when I want to de-stress and relax from a long day.
The Humble Warrior Complete cleansing oil is the optimal first step to any daily cleansing regime. Its “oil pulling” for your skin in a masterful blend of large and small molecule oils which provide the perfect combination for detoxifying the skin by lifting hard to remove makeup, cleansing pore debris and relaxing the mind.
Shake bottle and add a few pumps into your palm. Gently rub palms together to warm the oil, bring to the nose and take a deep breath exhaling slowly, repeat three times. Massage into face, neck and décolletage to stimulate circulation and release environmental debris. Follow by cushioning your face in a warm steamy face cloth. Hold for 5. Softly sweep material over oiled areas. Repeat if necessary. That is why I steam my face with this witches potion on it.
This cleaning ritual stimulates circulation, lymphatic flow and deep connective tissue detoxing, aiding in the reduction of lymphatic stagnation. Plant extracts gently, yet effectively, dissolve excess sebum, deeply cleansing the pores without disrupting skin’s natural balance. Skin is left feeling pristine, thoroughly hydrated and nourished.
Then I use the REJUVENATING FACIAL ELIXIR. It is my go-to oil after I come from travelling and want I want to have a good nights sleep. The scent and the texture of the oil are sublime. It relaxes my face and mind. I like to use a steamer and steam the oil after I put it on my face. The steam also creates a relaxing at-home spa feel.
Theresa wanted to create a hero product which fed, nourished and rejuvenated delicate facial skin. Returning to her herbalist roots, she sourced whole plants used for centuries to treat skin conditions from conscious growers. Through time-honoured methodology, these plants were infused in single farmed oils, cold-pressed to retain their full nutrient spectrum. She then distilled the most potent ingredients from the rainforests of the Caribbean to conjure a natural perfume which encourages a deep breath and connect with your heart chakra. The alchemist in her combines these elements to form a sophisticated vitamin cocktail which repairs, nourishes and rejuvenates the skin, while calming sensitivity and revealing a lifted, brightened and glowing complexion.
For the past few years, I have lived by the rules that our ancestors and grandparents lived more healthy then we do these days. My mission is to take a book from my grandmother’s book and live as she did. Bless her she lived to the ripe old age of 90. She looked 60 and died naturally with beautiful skin. I think she was on to something.
That is why when I find products that have the same esthetics that I grow up with, I embrace them. Our ancestors were on to something, and it worked. I stay away from using products that I cannot pronounce. Call me a witch, but it only means I am am a herbalist too. Ancestors were on to something, and I am listening to them.
It all starts with A Caribbean Girls Dream and now we can have skin that any women can relate too. As women with ancestry from the Caribbean living in London, Paris & New York our skin misses the sun and needs products that will love it. The products from the Skin Alchemist understand these needs and loves our skin back every time we apply them.
