One of my most favourite places to travel to is Italy. This July we returned to Florence to eat, shop and mix with the locals. Located in the heart of Tuscany, Florence is one of Italy’s most incredible cities. We had the pleasure of staying at the Glance Hotel.
Its lovely yellow buildings, medieval architecture, and Renaissance history draw tens of thousands of visitors each year. We stayed at the Glance Hotel, where we sipped cocktails by the rooftop pool and meet our fellow travellers from around the world. The Hotel is very family-friendly too.
In an ideal world, you’d be able to visit Florence when it’s least crowded, but sometimes a summer holiday in Italy is just too much to resist. If you’re heading to Florence during its busiest time of year (June through August), here are a few tips to help you make the most of your trip and a hotel recommendation.
AVOID THE HEAT
Tuscany is lovely, but it can be brutal during the hottest months of the year. To avoid the smothering heat, do things at odd times of the day.
Get up early and walk along the Arno River. Take in the view from Piazzale Michelangelo late at night. Go shopping in the evening around dinnertime, just before shops close for the day. And hit the museums during the afternoon to soak up that sweet, sweet air conditioning.
Glance Hotel Florence Hotspot Review
If you enjoy a smile, umbrellas on hand when you need it, comfort and style then the Glance Hotel is the hotspot for you. An easy walk from the Central Train station and most tourist spots. The hotel’s location allows you to get lost on the cobblestone streets and take a nice walk to Ponte Vecchio my beloved part of town.
If you are looking for a cool place to rest your feet have coffee or a healthy drink check out Ditta Artigianale. Our recommendation for dinner is head to Basilica di Santo Spirito. Where you can have pizza, pasta and everything else Italian. In the summer, it is a great place to meet people over a drink. One of the best places to try is Le Botteghe Di Donatello
Smiles Welcome You to Glance Hotel Florence
Located in the heart of Florence near the central market, Glance Hotel is housed in a building designed by renowned architect Italo Gamberini in the early 1950s.
Elegant multi-functional areas, perfect for cosmopolitan travellers, create a warm, peaceful atmosphere to welcome our guests. In the hotel, every moment of the day can be experienced to the fullest.
- Rooftop pool exclusively for hotel guests, with breathtaking views of the Florence skyline
- Stylish rooms equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, extra-large showers and turndown service
- Well-stocked breakfast selection with natural, fresh and healthy ingredients
- Lounge bar with relaxation area, garden and social zone with free Wi-Fi
- Rooms with luxury toiletries and a wonderful bathroom like a spa.
The name Glance refers to the attention to detail that makes the building so special. On each floor, space is given over to an iconic reworking of one of Florence’s most famous Renaissance sculptures.
Details from Michelangelo’s David, Giambologna’s Rape of the Sabines, Ammannati’s Neptune, and Baccio Bandinelli’s Hercules and Cacus are therefore reproduced on entire walls, as the main themes of a narrative which is contemporary while also paying tribute to Florence’s artistic and historical heritage.
We had an amazing time at the hotel. The staff was always ready to help. From the minute we walked in they had a beam on their face. At breakfast in the restaurant, the wait staff was always willing to a commodate. My only suggestion to the hotel would be more vegetarian options. Because of a lack of choice for me, I was made to eat more pasta throughout the day.
When we were there in July, Florence was going through a heatwave. We were happy to have a rooftop view from the poolside of places we wanted to visit in the city. Where the bartender mixed up great cocktails and the best Moscow Mule in the city. We even ate at the terrace restaurant and skipped sightseeing for a day.
The atmosphere was too good to leave. We made friends and brought out our speakers and with the other quest took turns playing our playlist and got to know each other. We created our own rooftop rave.
We relaxed and talked with the other guests and watch the kids run around. The Glace hotel is accommodating for families, silver surfers and lover. Guess which group we fit into?
