I had the clearest, soft, radiant skin when I was a teenager. But I didn’t take care of my skin. Genetically I have the mix of my mom’s great radiant skin under this inflamed cyst acne my dad passed on to me. I believe acne is hereditary. I assume clear skin is a blended cocktail regarding everything you eat, water consumption, skincare routine, vitamin supplements, hormone levels, etc. My goal for the end of this year is to have clear, smooth, radiant skin like I had when I was a teenager. Besides, this journey demands trial and error. At the start of this journey, I went through several different beauty products. A lot of those products didn’t work for me. Momentarily, I don’t have severe acne. My job does require me to have clear skin. It’s difficult working and fighting acne. As a full-time model, I do require getting my makeup done. Makeup can take a little longer with my hyperpigmentation. To get my perfect match, makeup artists use two different colours of foundation. My skin at the start of this year was dull-looking, tired, and very inflamed. I was over it, honestly. Acne hyperpigmentation also scars take time to heal. Reader’s don’t lose hope. I was starting to lose my hope until I got a grip. I couldn’t help but think if I want clear skin I have to work for it. I believe consistency is key. Also, try releasing stress with yoga or meditation. Remember to drink your 2L water a day. I adopted my new beauty routine. However, I need to confess that I am not sure if it’s my lack of drinking alcohol or sunscreen or my newly adapted keto diet. These are the products currently helping me combat acne hyperpigmentation and scars.
PRO TIP: It is essential to use sunscreen. Particularly, when you have hyperpigmentation.
I can’t live without
1. Acure Brightening Cleanser
Personally, one of the best cleansers I have came across.
It can be used as a cleanser and makeup remover. It is an anti-oxidant cleanser with pomegranate, blackberries and acai. For the brightening Acure ingredients include lemon, orange, chlorella, rooibos, Matricaria. It irritates the skin neither does it dry it up. A pea-size goes a long way. It’s been improving my complexion and bonus it smells like oranges. Afterwards, you’ll feel refreshed, cleansed and happy.
2. Pai Rose Hip Oil
The magic elixir for my skin.
Rosehip oil is commonly used as a skin-healing property. There are Omegas 3, 6, 7 & 9 plus antioxidant carotenoids. It additionally helps shield the skin against environmental stress. The ingredients in this oil are Rosehip seed extract, Rosehip fruit extract, Vitamin E, also Rosemary extract. I adore rosehip oil. It moisturizes furthermore provides it with a little Dewey effect on my skin. All that while it heals the hyperpigmentation in my skin!
3. Instanatural Glycolic Acid Serum
I cannot emphasise enough how important this beauty product is to me. A must-have product if you have discolouration, redness or hyper-pigmentation. Till a few weeks ago Glycolic Acid wasn’t in my vocabulary. My agent brought me this for my hyper-pigmentation. I am very thankful he introduced me to Glycolic Acid. Glycolic Acid is an exfoliating treatment. I find that exfoliators with crystals make my skin even worse. I have sensitive skin, so Glycolic Acid is the way to go. Glycolic acid additionally helps with wrinkles, discolouration, hyperpigmentation, and scarring. Instanatural Glycolic Acid includes Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Argan Oil, and Rosehip Oil.
My skin feels so smooth. I additionally find that my complexion seems illuminating. My hyper-pigmentation is definitively healing. It’s all you ever need in one small bottle.
4. The Ordinary Niamicide 10% + Zinc 1%
If you love small pores + controlled oily skin
At the moment, this is the most popular product used. It is ideal for my oily skin. I use this after applying Glycolic Acid. I don’t concentrate on my pores. Pores are not a huge concern for me. Appreciations to this product though, this minimized my pores. Included bonus my oily skin is way more controlled. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better, it also helps reduce the redness that acne leaves. According to The Ordinary, the Niacinamide (vitamin B3) reduces the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. A high 10 per cent concentration of this vitamin is supported in the formula by zinc PCA to balance visible aspects of sebum activity.
5. Peter Thomas Roth Black Irish Moor Mud Mask
Who gives 60$ to a face mask? When it’s Peter Thomas Roth I do.
I have continued using Peter Thomas Roth masks for the last year. I prefer them. For my acne-prone skin, the Irish moor black mask wins. This mud mask purifies also decongests your pores. The added fragrances from masks irritate my skin. Here is a completely odourless one with no added fragrances. Ingredients include Hijiki Seaweed, Volcanic Ash, Activated Charcoal and Irish Moor Mud. The mask is very thick but hydrating. It visibly minimizes the appearance of my pores. It leaves my skin feeling fresh, hydrated and glowing. Overall the best mask in skincare.
6. The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
BEST OVER THE COUNTER PEEL
I’ll spend 60 dollars on my face mask. However, I will not spend money to go to get a 120-200 dollar facial. I am not going to sugar-coat this one for you. This little miracle peel is hell on your face. For the first few uses at least it is. It looks so scary. I look like I am doing a vampire facial. When I started using this product, I wanted to wash it off immediately. I never felt my face so much stinging in my life. As they say, beauty is a pain. I must say after the pain I suffered for 10 minutes, I looked radiant. This magical peel was highly recommended by The Ordinary for acne-prone skin. Now, this magical little peel I use 2x a week. It is to dimish the look of acne. Personally, it helped a lot with some texture I had on my skin from an allergic reaction to MAC cosmetics. PS: It has salicylic acid for those active blemishes.
7. The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution
For Active Acne
Most salicylic acid is so drying and harsh on the skin. The Ordinary Salicylic Acid dries out my blemish without having my skin falling apart. Within 24-48 hours the blemish is reduced in size also redness. I HIGHLY recommend this one if you have active acne. It also contains BHA! Not only does it combat your active acne but it lightly exfoliates.
P.S I’m also due to go on Accutane in the Fall. I’ll let you know next year Jan 2020 how that goes.
A big thanks to Deciem for The Ordinary products and Bella PR for Instanatural products.
