Reality stars, basketball players, everyone is getting into the music business, especially in Rap. But what is causing this trend ?
Lately, it feels like rap is losing its uniqueness. Rappers used to have something to say and they were saying it with poetry, hood poetry. Now it is losing a few of its values. No rimes, No stories (sometimes). Don’t get it twisted, we see a lot of great things, good rappers with great energy and hard work. Our era is one of the most creative one, but we have to admit that some changes took place in rap music.
One of the problems might be the fact that every and anyone can claim to be a rapper. With social media and internet its is easier to get into this world, and standards requires less skills. Why ? Maybe because of the consumer society, we want a lot in a short amount of time.
It feels like in the 2019 era all you have to do is to have a great beat. So now, beat makers are being indispensable. And it seems like this is why we see more beat makers, they are exposed to the public eye. In the 90’s you knew about beat makers but they were not as famous as they are now, they were shadow workers.
The other things that might be responsible for the changes in rap music are the image that rap sends. Jewelry, big cars, houses and other sign of wealth that rappers are showing in their lyrics and music videos are attracting people. Who wouldn’t want to have that? Nobody. So everyone is trying to earn that lifestyle by getting into the rap industry. Is all of this worthy? Are we ready to leave traditional rap music for a new form with fewer values and rules?
