Christian Louboutin’s Adds Two New Shades to Nude Shoe Line
Growing up mixed race was always a challenge and I think Christian Louboutin understood this too. Our skin tones are slightly the same. The shoe designer has just added two more skin tones to his Les Nudes by Christian Louboutin and many a brown babes will be happy. The Shoe Line is revolutionary for mixed race women like myself and my gal pals, who thought buying makeup and underwear were hard. I learned early on from my grandmother that when you wore white or something see through you had to wear nude under it. What does that even mean? When shopping for makeup for my skin tone, I have heard that I have yellow tones in my skin like asian women, but there are no Asians in my family that I know of. These are mixed race problems. Christian Louboutin’s nude shoe line is revolutionary for mixed race women like me. The designer is telling the world hello we exist and ballerinas come in all colors.
Les Nudes : Christian Louboutin Two More Skin Tones Added to Collection
Last week, the shoe legend Christian Louboutin announced that he is expanding his nude collection, which originally launched in 2013, to include the Solar Sofia Pointed ballet flats. It was something I had to marinate on, this piece could not just be about the shoes. It is breaking news for women of color who love his shoes and cannot find their skin tone i.e. nude in their shade. No shade here, as the shoes are already available in a spectrum of creams, coffees and caramel shades, for women of colour this launch is revolutionary. The darker the berry the sweeter the juice, now there is mocha and dark chocolate hues. It is refreshing to see the shoe designer embraces women of color in all shades, because he understands how hard it is finding an actual nude heel, or a nude anything for that matter in our skin tones and how frustratingly difficult it can be.
‘Nude is not a colour, it’s a concept,’Christian Louboutin
Being mixed-race, I have been told you have such pretty skin, but you are not just black! I am black. People always want to point out my very caucasian features. Why I do not know? My medium to yellow-brown skin has never matched up to the typical ‘nude’ shades companies try to sell us. From shoes to underwear and lipsticks, ‘nude’ has always essentially meant beige or cream, and eliminated my skin tone and millions of others completely. Nude shades can make some of us look washed out and pale.
Christian Louboutin’s Nude Shoe Line Is Revolutionary for Women of Color
‘Nude is not a colour, it’s a concept,’ designer Christian Louboutin told The Telegraph when asked why he decided to expand his nude collection. And he’s right. We all look different with no clothes on and we come in shades of the earth simple.
If ‘nude’ is supposed to look natural and fit your complexion perfectly, with underwear merging to look flawless under sheer tops, and shoes which should ‘disappear like magic and become a fluid extension of the legs’ as Louboutin says his new Solo sofia pumps do, then why are so many skin tones traditionally left out?
The luxury shoe designer took to Instagram to announce the news, posting photos of seven models with very different skin colours sporting the new collection of pointed flat pumps, with chic matching tutus. “This spring, two new hues join our Nudes collection to create a spectrum of seven suited to any skin tone, from porcelain to deep chocolate,” he wrote, promising “a nude for every woman.” The flats, which feature a simple ballerina bow detail on the front and betray no visible seams, are crafted from flexible matte nappa leather designed to mimic the look and feel of skin, the designer explained. The aim is that the shoes “nearly disappear on the leg” for a light and minimalist result. We thank Christian Louboutin for adding to the collection because Black Girls Rock Christian Louboutin too. Now we can have a pair of red bottoms in a shade that matches our beautiful shades of the earth.
