During fashion week the issue is always what to wear. This season I wanted to test out dressing modest. Not wearing clothing for attention, but supporting young designers and embracing my shape. Last season during fashion week I meet a plethora of designers from the Ukrainian and was smitten with what they did. My plan for fashion week was to find out where I could buy Ukrainian designer pieces for our five weeks of fashion. I found the e-commerce site The Odivo.com the home of emerging Ukrainian designers all in one place.
Style Editors Shops on The Odivo.com
My modest but sexy shopping began on the site. In 2015,The Odivo.com joined the worldview of Ukrainian fashion designers and brands making a point to develop a strong aesthetic form, while also visually expressing personality through the Ukrainian womenswear designers and brands it works with. Gathering some of the most awarded, applauded and showcased Ukrainian designers and brands in one global place, ODIVO retails the best in Ukrainian fashion design.
It was a breath of fresh air to have pieces that no one else had. During fashion week, you see editors and bloggers wearing the same designers. All starving for attention in Kenzo, Valentino and Balmain. For once street style photographers did not know what I had on, and wanted to know what I was wearing. This season many of them told me they were bored with street style fashion, because everyone was wearing the same thing. Although the designers I chose to wear were on trend, their aesthetic was different .
I chose this sporty sweat shirt piece for my sporty chic look from KSENIA SCHNAIDER. This clean-cut, minimal sweatshirt dress, pays homage to traditional Ukrainian embroidery and design in its prints on both sleeves, featuring distorted floral patterns and a classic square neckline. One day I wore it with trousers underneath and one day I showed a little leg. At the hemlines, there is a white fringe which gives this piece a hint of 20s glamour, and follows the fringe trend. It looked great with my tan too.
The other piece I picked up from the site was this ANNA OCTOBER dress. I loved that it had pockets, I felt like such a lady in this dress. This dress is a defiant street style photo moment from Anna October’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The vibrant blue dress features thin but secure contrasting yellow straps and viscose lining. Since I wanted to keep it modest and sexy I added a vintage peasant off the shoulder blouse. The horizontal cut runs just below the chest line and widens into an A-line silhouette down the dress. Pretty flower appliqués in blue and orange adorn the dress and subtle pockets sit either side. For my day look I wore flats and for night I added a cute kitten heel.
My most treasured piece was the DAY DRESS by THEO. I wore this dress about a million times, in different ways with heels and boots. It was the most versatile for my pledge to dress modest but sexy during our fashion week escapades. I felt like Audrey Hepburn for she would definitely have worn this dress. I chose it because it’s another item that is great for day-to-night. During fashion week shows and presentation start at 9AM and finish after PM. The woollen day dress kept to my plan of dressing modest and sexy. The THEO dress is a versatile staple for my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Featuring cropped sleeves and falling just below the knee, the conservative cut works for many women and is flattering to the shape. It looks good with heels or with flats.
