Crooks & Castles Urban Street Wear Chic Hits Europe
From runway to street wear Crooks & Castles tapped in to a niche that no other street-wear label caught onto. Crooks like fashion too, and sport it on the way to the top. I am a native New Yorker who lives in Europe, and whenever I go home I look for what is hot on the street. Now I have known about the brand Crooks & Castles for awhile and when I spotted the medusa head on the streets on NYC, I had to have it like a bandit. I picked up the T for my partner in Black and White. Now I am seeing more and more people rocking the brand on the streets of London and Paris.
Crooks & Castles is so my man’s style from the minds behind the collection to what it represents. I love bad boys. Another reason to talk about urban street style because of the sadness of the Trayvon Martin story. Just because you dress like a bad boy does not mean you are a bad boy. And just because you come from the hood does not mean you will always be a boy in the hood forever.
Crooks & Castles have always routed for the villain and the under dog, whether it be in a movie, a comic book, a novel, a rap song or every- day life. The creators of the label grew up in Los Angeles during the 80’s and 90’s where the villainous lifestyle runs deep . If you did not know gangs were everywhere-the hood, the city, even middle suburbia. Most had no choice but to adapt to the environment and this lifestyle was glamorised in movies, news and via music of the error.
Some were able to escape or even channel what they’ve learned on the street into something lucrative. My French partner is proof of this and how we met. While he was living his hip hop dream in New York, and now he too is a lover of everything Crooks & Castles. It is exciting to now see the brand in Europe. Because there are a lot of boys in the hood over here too.
Crooks & Castles”! The concept was easy. “Crooks”, criminals, pimps, hustlers, thieves, etc. Sounds like a lyric in a song. And “Castles” those who got rich by becoming a crook. From the robber barons of the early times like the Vanderbilts, the Rockerfellers, the Carnegies, to the modern day billionaires-Bill Gates & Microsoft. Those who stopped at nothing to get their “Castle”. We too hope one day to be the next rich crook. My partner have always played with the Bonne and Clyde aspect of living the street life. I just wish they made more stuff for girls!
Crooks & Castles allows us to live the dream in the form of the T-shirts on our backs. I put a scissor to them and create a dress, all you need is an XL. Some of the designs you might see a familiar icon or logo that Crooks & Castles (stole) and gave it our own twist.
Crooks & Castles felt that some high fashion brands only catered to someone in a certain lifestyle or with a rather large bank account. Therefore, Crooks & Castles took what they made and crafted it to fit the lifestyle of Crooks looking for their Castles.
