THE PLAZA Hotel FIRST EVER ELOISE TREE LIGHTING HOLIDAY With BETSEYJOHNSON
The Plaza has partnered with punk princess of fashion Betsey Johnson,(Cartwheels please) to design the hotel’s official Eloise Christmas Tree for the holiday season. The Plaza and Betsey will also introduce the designer’s first holiday ‘popup’ shop, open now. The Betsey designed, Eloise- themed Christmas tree is completely inspired by the precocious Eloise, the heroine of Kay Thompson’s 1955 classic book, and will be the centerpiece of the hotel with its location in the Fifth Avenue foyer. The collaboration between the New York City icon and the famed designer marks the second exclusive partnership between the two brands, with Betsey designing the Eloise Suite in 2010.
“I absolutely loooove The Plaza, along with Eloise of course!” says Betsey Johnson. “I’ll be poppin’ in to light the Eloise tree and kick off my Betsey holiday pop-up shop, filled with my favorite stocking stuffers and more. There’s something for everybody! Pop in and say hi! XOX Betsey”
On Monday November 28 at 5:00pm, The Plaza and Betsey Johnson will host a holiday-themed ‘Tree Lighting Tea’ in The Palm Court to kick off the holiday happenings throughout the hotel.

The hallmark event will also introduce The Palm Court’s new Holiday Tea Menu, featuring a combination of sweet and savory seasonal items such as a Scallop Tartlet with American Caviar; Roasted Heirloom Turkey with Cranberry Chutney; Foie Gras Terrine; Spinach and Feta Phylo Napoleon; Gingerbread Men cookies, Peppermint Bark, Red and Green Petit Fours, Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies anda plate for Santa and his reindeer filled with Sugar and Chocolate Cookies and Reindeer Crudites. The limited-time-only Holiday Tea Menu will be available throughout the remainder of the year, while the special ‘Tree Lighting Tea’ is one night only, and will become an annual tradition at the hotel during the festive holiday season. This would have been a great scene for The Sopranos Carmela and Meadow would have loved it.
Children will be able to enjoy the infamous Eloise Tea, which features bite-size delights inspired by the 6-year old heroine, including Grilled Cheese Sandwiches; Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches; Strawberry and Cream Cheese Sandwiches; Assorted Cookies; Chocolate Cupcakes; Pink Pink Jello; Eloise Shortbread Cookies, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries and Cold Cold Pink Lemonade.
Pricing for the Tree Lighting Tea is $79 per adult and $45 per child, and includes a champagne toast as well as a ‘mocktail’ for younger guests.
