Runway Report Shamask’s Spring 2012 Collection
Trend : Shamask’s Fashion week return the designer Ron Shamask hadn’t shown at Fashion Week in 10 years, and had decided to make a return upon the suggestion of Bergdorf Goodman VP and GMM Aja Passero. Mr. Shamask’s collection has been tremendously successful sales-wise at stores like Bergdorf, Neiman Marcus, Barneys, Saks and Stanley Korshak since its inception in 1996. This must be why Bill Cunningham was seated in the front row shooting away. After pioneering intellectual design and architectural clothing in the late 70s Punk era and achieving fashion notoriety in the late 80s, Ronaldus Shamask returns to his legendary clean, ethereal roots.
The models were given a much needed break for their feet, each model came down the runway in Havianas. The collections was walking art and did not need anything to distract from the the pieces that resembled art by Mr. Brainwash. The make-up was clean and fresh following the trend for Spring 2012, the beach look wih an orange pout. Mr. Shamask told Women’s Wear Daily earlier this week that he was showing at Fashion Week again because he felt he had an “extremely valid statement” to make on the runway. This he did make and I was glad to skip another show to see history in the making.

Swag. The 54-look show speaks to the modern day lady who loves art deco and would be drawn to the degradé pieces at the beginning of the show, and the handkerchief hemlines of many of the dresses. The unexpected bow detail on the back of the jackets and dresses and side zippers on the leather pieces, and the spirited Mondrian garments spoke to the women who likes minimalism and loves that she can be a walking piece of art.
Mr. Shamask’s collection mixed intellectual design with femininity with fun and the Havaianas added the touch of the cool factor and laid back attitude of the pieces.
