Gianofranco Ferre Fall/ Winter 2011 Best Looks
The design team of Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, have breathed new life into the Gianfranco Ferrè collection for Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection. It was slim sleek and shiny. The brand has had a turbulent few years with financial problems followed by the sudden death of its founder in 2007, but with the re-birth came a new backer from Dubai, Ahmed Sankari.
The inspiration for the collection was drawn from Frank Lloyd Wright, with references to chromatic/meteric and sartorial perfection in shapes and structures that reflect his architecture.
On the runway, a key trend that we keep seeing this season is the minimalist style and Ferre was no different the palette was swept with luminous to opaque in an intangible, yet distinct vision, where white meets beige and flesh pink meshed with black and blue nuances.

The silhouettes alternated from loose and reassuring lines to clean and precise shapes, while a material contrast softly wrapping the feminine figure emerges from a spindle form. I love the backless numbers with a touch of black and the white pieces with a touch of shimmer.
The fabrics include silver lames, radiant pannè velvets, superfine hammered crèpes and worsted cashmeres, plus a wool/silk blend with the delicate luster of a gorgeous silk duchesse. Other fabrics such as, stretch leather united with maroquin fabrics, blended well with a tulle rich in gros grain and wool strip appliqués.
The accessories also need to get an honorable mention because they completed the looks.
The round cut “Moonlight” bags made in chamois suede or crocodile leather feature shiny metal edging that also turns into cabochons set with black and ivory stones.
This collection was for the Red Carpet and seemed timed and ready for Oscar Sunday. We will defiantly see a few pieces walking the Oscar Red Carpet.
