A/W 2010 Pant Trends from Paris

This Autumn /Winter 2010 is a return to Classic style. With sharp masculine tailoring the runways of Paris previewed traditional lines , neutral tones, blacks, grays and if you didn’t know beige is the new autumn/winter color.

The trend for trousers has definitely changed time to pack way your harem pants and time to go high waist-ed. There are some great pieces to be had the theme is straight forward clean, comfy trousers for everyday living.Hussein Chalayan kept it comfy with tailored track bottoms and flowing slacks.  Jean-Charles de Castelbajac gave us a future fantasy. Armed with pants that are both fun and weather resistant because these day you never know what mother nature will throw at you.

Junya Watanabe brought the military look back with no signs of laying down the arms this Fall 2010. The collection is a mix of Edwardian and Mary Poppins-esque touches.  This collection draws a find line between sportswear and ready to wear perfect for today’s style mavens.  Rei Kawakubo added bulk and heft to her collection.  She sent out a puffed up look for the legion of Power Puff girls with padded pants to boot.  Feather slouchy pants that look great with sneakers/trainers or heels.

AT ISABEL MARANT it was a 60′s revival.  She paraded down her run-way 60′s silhouettes with capri pants as the main theme of her A/W 2010 RTW collection. The trousers came in leather, red and sequins staying in tune with her miss match style that you can pair with anything.  Sonia Rykiel stuck to her signature style o f knits, which is definitely her strong point.  The collections pant trend has masculine fabrics and and over-sized 80′s styled pants.

Another trend is high wasted trousers Jean Paul Gaultier takes it there and makes it fun high fashion as usual.  He brings ethnic street to high end.  While Stella McCartney speaks to her client base who demand sleek and sexy looks . Ever true to her brand she knows we want comfort and style. Her wardrobe essentials this season are tapered trousers à la Jean Seberg in “Breathless” giving that legging look.

It seems at Balmain Christophe Decarnin has taken a page out of the Tom Ford Gucci handbook.  Is he testing the waters to let the Rock chic look be a thing of the past?  CD is bringing sexy back with dressed up suits with a little edginess to his trousers sleek and tailored. Cholé does the same but it’s not black but beige all the way. Hannah MacGibbon gives us all the shades on the colour wheel of beige from caramel to desert sand.  The collection was also very masculine attitude with sporty designs.

All I can say is Ohh La La.  John Galliano must have spent the day at the races because he was all saddled up at Dior A/W 2010. He returned to the days of afternoon tea with the dandies and duchess.  After having a romp with the stable hands he paraded down the runway homage to the stable hand look. It was a savvy mix of jodhpurs and riding pants with capes to match.  At Yves Saint Laurent it was simply YSL. It  was tailoring at its best and the collections was 1950′s inspired wardrobe styled for a Cocteau film.  Again we see loose fitting trousers glide down the runway.  I have to mention Stefano Pilati’s touch on bling with the chain belts and necklaces, oh I a wanted one.
