A/W 2010 Milan Fashion Week

Usually fashion reporters comment on fashion shows as they happen.  After attending London, Paris and Milan I prefer to report on my experiences and the joys of fashion week.  Many people think that covering fashion week is all fun and no work.  Yet, covering fashion weeks is very hard work.  MY fashion weeks European tour I am excited to report that Milan is my favourite fashion week right after New York!

Just take a look at the invites! The Milanese really know how to treat a lover of fashion.   Compared to London and Paris you are treated with respect and hospitality! Mangiare, mangiare.   A seated ticket was your passport to cocktails, champagne, a pasta taster or even better risotto!  It was more like attending an exclusive party and the treat being a fashion show at the end.  Even when you had a standing ticket you were treated with more hospitality then in London and Paris. Where you were treated like cattle or even worse like a person from the bridge and tunnel crowd  attempting to get into a hot NYC club and  you  don’t know the doorman!

My favourite show had to be Gucci. I have been a longtime fan of the label.  It  might have something to do with all the 80′s hip-hop videos where rappers all ways wore the huge logo on any thing they could embellish their wardrobe with, or maybe it’s  the family history of the brand.  The book tells the tale of a Italian version of Dynasty!  I love a good drama.

The show it self was a tail to tell with all the Vouge editors in attendance in the first row.  I had the pleasure of being int the 2nd row behind Carine Roitfeld, who was across from Franca Sozzani Editor-in-Chief, Vogue Italia, with a great view where I could see Anna Wintour with her bodyguard sitting on the stair next to her, Olivier Zahm editor of Purple Magazine and American stylist Rachel Zoe.  Four rows behind was the blogger Bryan Boy who would have thought the front row baby would be so far back.

Other seasoned bloggers like myself, theclothteswhisper, Red Carpet Fashion Awards and Facehunter were there to work not to be shot for our outfits or been seen in the front row.  It is a long-term project for us and we did our thing.  Even my old boss at KCD like Ed Filipowski was surprised to see my attendance.  When I worked there they were not hip on the on line thing, it proved that some PR’s are finally getting the importance of having the new legion of e-zine fashion journalist in attendance.

At Gucci Frida Giannini stated “I’ve grown up. It’s more mature clothes for more mature women, because that’s what I am,” Frida Giannini said after her show.  The more mature women who has money to burn can appreciate the A/W 2010 collection of Gucci. On the cat walk we were introduced to next seasons trends cream, dove gray,  style trends of fitted dresses, a slim patchworked ostrich and suede coat shown with matching opaque tights and shoes.  One of the biggest trends for A/W 2010 was women are more likely then men to be the bread winners.  Giannini gave us the perfect attire for the office and our roles of power for dressing. She understands women’s need to be stylish and her desire for a nice pair of tailored pants, paired with coats and fur-patched jackets with  attitude.

Giannini quoted the nineties and the sixties in her program notes.The collection was reminiscent of Gucci’s hay-day pre and post  Tom Ford,  referencing his  early boot-cut pants and GG logo phase of his career. Her taloired trousers are  flatteringly to the figure and when paired with an A-line suede coat with a fox vest liner, or her versions of cropped mélanged fur jackets.

Giannini’s ditched ultrashort for a slightly longer length, with leg-fitting suede thigh boots. Gosh, already time to think about boots!  I have seen a few I already have my eye on, to ,many to choose from.   Last but not least the Gucci finale of evening wear—all LBD‘s intercut with snake-patterned lace and ostrich, all red-carpet ready  and all totally wearable.
