Maison Martin Margiela without Martin Margiela? The designer has officially left the house.
The man that symbolises newness, adventure that made the little girl of 7 that I was in 1988 dream, has disappeared from the spotlight. He said “Goodbye” as he said “Hello”, with no word but action.
I want to pay tribute to someone who broke conventions and extended the range of messages fashion can express.
Models with no face when everybody wants to brand and name everything and everyone.
Clothes to be hung more than worn. To me, he is the first and only one who has revealed how white is contradictory: pure and dirty at the same time.
Not a colour, white is like a prostitute, it adapts itself to the client; it can be yellow- white, grey-white, dirty white, immaculate white, it depends on the lighting and the medium.
I went to the opening of his store on Rue de Grenelle in Paris, so today I just want to say: see you next time around!
